I noticed this today and I'm wondering what the hell is it!? I'm not prone to keloids, but if it is, how do I get the salt paste in such a tight area?
What are your thoughts?
how long have you had your nose pierced for ? mine had a lot of bumps like that in the first few weeks but they sorta went away on their own. it's hard to tell from the picture but it might just be an unfortunately placed pimple ? also do you do salt water rinses like in a pint glass ? that might help clear it out faster ! i'm no expert tho i just have weird nose stuff all the time and hope for the best that it goes away tbh :~P
you shouldn't use salt very often... just clean with water and soap... maybe salt once every other day too much salt can dry it out and make it irritated like that
I went back to the piercer and she said it's a small keloid forming. I had my stud switched out for a hoop so I can treat it. I only had my nose pierced for two weeks, but I unfortunately hit it a lot.
I have experienced the same things with my nose piercing. I've had mine for about a year and a half now, but the first few months were a bit irritable. Anyways, what I suggest you do is clean it with a saline solution everyday and I also suggest you use tea tree oil on it everyday as well. Use the tea tree oil until you see that your keloid is gone. I also suggest suppressing the urge to touch the piercing, even to adjust it (only do so if you have washed your hands). I definitely recommend you use tea tree oil though (you can think of it as a miracle worker aha).
honestly, I don't think it looked like a keloid from that picture. It just looked irritated coupled with a small pimple or boil. I wouldn't keep changing the jewellery out, even if it's the piercer who's doing it. Changing it so soon after piercing will only irritate the piercing more and possibly make things worse. I told you in another thread that I strongly advocate the "litha" (leave it the hell alone) method for piercings - think of it this way, when you get a cut, you don't clean it multiple times a day and put different stuff on it, you just wash it off, maybe stick a bandaid on it if it's bleeding too much, and leave it to heal on its own.
also, if you try tea tree oil like suggested, be aware that it is VERY drying and should be diluted with another oil. you'll also want to make sure if you're allergic to it - I found out the hard way that I was after trying to use it on my problematic helix piercing.
I think after this heals, I'll probably be removing the jewellery and let it close. I don't want more problems with it.
It looks a bit infected to me?
based on the picture, I'm 99.9% certain that's a boil, because it looks exactly like how my helix piercing did. if you want to give up on the piercing then definitely wait until it 100% heals, because otherwise you'll be trapping the bacteria in your nose and possibly running into more problems. the good news about it being a boil though is that it's actually the least problematic type bump you can get on a piercing. I highly, highly recommend just leaving your piercing alone and just cleaning it very gently if it gets too crusty/gross looking. the boil will leak some fluid or bleed once in a while - you're fine as long as the pus is a light yellow and not dark yellow/greenish. it'll also look like it's about to heal, but then start looking like it's filling up with fluid again. it'll go through a few cycles of that, but it'll heal up fine eventually. (tbh by the time it heals up, your entire piercing may be healed anyways).
Honestly, after it all heals, you shouldn't have too many issues with it. Any piercing, right after it's done, can be prone to problems.
If your bumping it a lot right after you've gotten it pierced, it's going to be worse than if you're bumping it a year later after it's all healed.
They really should've pierced you with a hoop to begin with. It makes cleaning a lot easier.
I decided to go to the clinic today for my nose. I brought my camera so I can show the DR what the bump on my nose looked like, compared to how it looks now. Basically, she said it's infected and it's starting to granulation scar. She told me it's best to remove the jewellery and waste what I spent on it; rather than spending more on plastic surgery for my nose in the future.
I got scared and I'm going to do what she suggested. She said nothing should get trapped inside if I keep doing the salt pastes.
have you taken it out already? because if you haven't, I know it was a doctor, but generally they're completely clueless about piercing problems. I went to the dermatologist for my ear and they were convinced it was hypertrophic scarring and tried to inject my cartilage with steroids. Yeah, no. hypertrophic scarring doesn't ooze pus or bleed.
no, I haven't taken it out yet
OH NO NO NO. DON'T TAKE IT OUT. I REPEAT, DO NOT TAKE THE PIERCING OUT.
I'm freaking scared now. I don't want plastic surgery on my nose ;-;
I would definitely recommend you keep the piercing in and give it some time. It's still a very fresh piercing, it'll run into some small issues once in a while and I know it's super worrying to you, but it's usually not a big deal. The biggest part of the battle is convincing yourself to leave it alone and let your body do its thing (instead of wanting to put a lot of stuff on it to help it heal - most of the time it's actually hindering the healing process). to give you a better idea of how clueless my dermatologist and 5+ of his residents were, not only did they try to inject steroids into my cartilage, but they also tried to put a bandaid on it afterwards.
resident: hold on, let me go get a bandaid me: what resident: it's bleeding me: you just stuck it with a needle, of course it's bleeding. it'll be fine. resident: but it's bleeding.. me: ok so you think it's hypertrophic scarring (which it's not), which forms from trauma. what do you think ripping a bandaid off my ear/earring is going to do? resident: but... it's bleeding... me: I'm leaving.
My nose ring fell out yesterday. I almost passed out from being so stressed out.
Uumm... if they poke you with a needle, of course you're going to bleed!
What kind of ring are you wearing? Honestly it looked like a weirdly small gauged hoop to me. I would suggest a 16g captive ball hoop.
