April 24th marked the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, when 1.5 million Armenian Christians were taken out of their homes and forced to convert to Islam or else they would be brutally killed, raped and turned into brides, or led into the desert and starved. While it isn’t a pretty topic to post about, it is an important topic for me, as an Armenian. Year after year, our attempts to draw attention to this issue and get US recognition are shut down. Isn’t this hypocritical for the US, the land of the free and home of the brave? Where we’ve been heavily involved in the Middle East/Soviet region for most of recent history. We’ve been spending money there, trying to bring freedom to their citizens, when the Armenians are being denied their history. Every year, the diary of Anne Frank is read by millions of students, and the Hutus and Tutsis are discussed in history classes, but nobody ever mentions the Armenian Genocide. Most people can’t even find it on a map. So today, I challenge you to like or read about something regarding the Armenian Genocide, tweet about it (use the ‪#‎ArmenianGenocide‬ hashtag! get it trending!), or even just read about it online.

Fun fact! Hitler was quoted, in a 1939 speech, to say: “Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?” That’s right, ignoring the Armenian Genocide literally lead to the Holocaust.

Please spread awareness. Even if it's just pinging friends on this forum. 100 years is far too long to go unrecognized.
