He's telling our co-workers we went to dinner?

Okay, so this guy at work whom I have a major crush on asked me to lunch about 4 months ago, but he had to cancel due to family medical issues.We never rescheduled and I thought we'd never do it.He has been very affectionate with me, but it stopped for a while.The other day he wasn't feeling well I guess and he went home.I sent him a text saying I hope he feels better.He appreciated it, two days later, i sent one to see if he felt better.He said much and told me when he would be back to work.I said great! He then called me(which he never calls.I always do the texting) I thought I dialed him at first so I hung up, but then he called right back.I answered and he said "Surprised I called?" I was like yeah.And then he asked about my day, and then went "Hey I was wondering, you remember the chilis plan we had? Would you like to go today with me?" I said sure, I went home and changed, and then we met.At the end he told me he had a great time and asked if He'd see me the next day at work.And then the next day, he was talking about it with our co-workers.When I got off work, I went to cash out and he was like "I had a great time yesterday" and the cashier was like "What happened yesterday?" He was like "I took her to chilis for a late dinner." and he was like "Will I see you sunday?" And I said yep, at work.
The thing is I don't think it was a date, but why is he telling our co-workers? I didn't gossip with my lady friend co-workers because I didn't feel it was my place to say he took me.
I really think you're looking too into this thing, it sounds like he answered a simple question. It's either that or I don't understand the story. By the looks of it, it was just a simple, "oh we went out to eat," answer than a, "Oh man yeah we went out on a date, etc." You're probably looking into it too much.
I'm the straightforward type, I'd straight up ask him if it was suppose to be a date or just a friendly thing ha
It sounds like he was just telling them something that happened and they took it as they would based on your interactions thus far, what with the crush you probably subconsciously show and the texting. I would just ask him what he meant before it gets any more gossipy and make some rules about what you say at work for both your sakes.
