Lately, I've lost most of my desire to play Subeta, and with it my desire to work on my pets. (I think my depression is a big part of it; I haven't felt like doing much of anything!) How do y'all get inspired to work on your pets again?

I've rehomed a couple pets that I just didn't have ideas for, or my ideas wouldn't work. I know what I want to do with all the ones I have left (except one that I've changed my mind on)... I just can't make myself work on them. Do I hold them until inspiration strikes? Force myself to get to work because inspiration might NOT strike?

Ugh, I just feel overwhelmed by all I need to do for them :(

I never force myself to work on my Pets because this would be bad for me I think. I have stories in mind for most of them, but I either don't have the time or mood to write or, most of the time, no inspiration on how to start the story etc.

I tried 4 times to write Ganesha's story, for example, but always deleted it again because it just sounded stupid. Same goes for other Pets.

Once my creativity kicks in though, I can write a story within an hour or so. But until then I never force myself to get ideas or be productive - just try to be patient with yourself and your creativity and something nice might happen. :D

:I went through this for so long as well. It got bad enough I went on hiatus from Subeta for a while since I just had no inspiration.

I use to create a character based on the name. That didn't work very well, and lately I've found I like creating a character based off TC ideas. For example, Chemical's concept came after I decided to collect all the elixirs and thought putting them in a TC would be more interesting then just having them in a gallery. This then led to wanting to have my candy hoard in a TC, which helped me with my pet Unicorn. So maybe try looking at different options for inspiration? Like items, certain species, etc.

I'd recommend holding onto pets in case you do get inspiration. I'd rather have a pet and later find out I can't work with them for sure instead of getting inspired and having adopted it out. Also, I don't think you should force yourself to work on a pet. If you are attached and just don't have a solid idea, then let them be idea less for a bit. I haven't been able to create anything solid for Kali for probably years now but I couldn't ever let her go.

And don't let it overwhelm you. I know, easier said then done, but maybe you could try focusing on something else for them to feel like you are doing something? Like expanding a TC, or training, etc. Sometimes I feel bad I have a pet that is rotting that someone else would be able to work with right now, but at the end of the day, it is your pet.

Thanks y'all :) You're right, I shouldn't force it (although my personality is the type that wants everything neat and wrapped up, lol). And the gallery thing is a good idea! I'd like to collect eyeball items, which would be great for my Exp. 2759!

: I'm the same way, so I completely understand. I want all my pets to have at least ideas and TCs (don't even get me started on profiles. I'd sell my soul at this point to learn how to do those lol)

Yes! Let the baby Groot distract you! :D

Oddly enough the same method Groot was talking about is what's been helping me too. I've been stressed and preoccupied with school and work things and lost my tablet, so I haven't drawn any of my pets in ages. And it's really bumming me out. But I started dedicating my SP to coloring them nicely and filling their TC's, and that has helped sooooo much. I feel like I'm interested in them and putting work in again. Some of them are even getting a few sentences of prose every once in a while. It might not be as impressive to others yet, but I'm making progress on my babies again, and having fun making them, so it feels great.

For a while I've been slowly replacing a lot of my pets. I "quit" for some time, emptied most of my hundreds-of-items-big TCs, and let everything rot. During that time I got rid of a bunch of my pets, replacing them with names I'd rather have. It sucked letting go of so many 50 or 100+ slot TCs, but I don't regret any of it.

Now that I've given up on quitting Subeta, I've also been using the TC method to get me to work on things. I don't want to write, have no desire to code, and don't even want to make new graphics for code I've already done. But re-filling my giant TCs? That I can do! (And really desperately wanted to... its very sad to see your once-glorious TCs empty and lame, haha) I spent all my sP on art when I quit so I've been slowly earning money to buy up TC items with Random and Matlal's Jewels. Its slow going but there's something sort of nice about saving up 200k-ish sP and then having a mini-spending spree, being very picky about what items I buy.

Right now I'm focused on two pets, Tavore and Kathelina. I was actually going to adopt Tavore out originally, but I am not giving away a 352 slot TC. When the Sweetheart Aeanoid came out I knew what I had to do and changed him almost immediately. I was stuck on TC ideas so I got some suggestions here. Tavore went from a generic flowery TC to a carnival/fair-themed TC and I couldn't be happier with him! Kath, on the other hand, was easier for me to get re-inspired by myself. While looking at Nostalgics, I noticed that the Neela is a jointed doll. Since Kath was already a Neela I knew she'd be perfect to finally give me the doll-related TC I've wanted for ages! Its almost halfway done and I'm even more excited than I thought I'd be! Kath's TC was originally a huge rainbow of plushies so she didn't change very much.

Whenever I feel like coding, I'll toss up some simple layouts on my "pretty name, not pretty TC" pets but I'm not gonna force myself. I'll do better work if I actually want to do it.

I take a rest, rarely look at my Pet and just wait for my inspiration to kick back in even if it takes months. Also, I'm watching as many series and movies as I can hoping that it helps me to find something to write about.

I'm kind of doing the same thing with TCs now :) Last night I went and cleaned up my wishlist and started buying some TC stuff again. I also ended up putting aside one pet whose character just isn't going to work... but I love the species. I'll just leave him until I come up with a good name/character for him.

I like the idea of watching stuff for inspiration :) I just had an idea for a pet based on a character I was obsessed with about fifteen years ago and still love. I feel a little guilty over getting another new pet when I have so many unfinished ones... but if I can work on her, maybe the ideas for the others will start flowing!

I go months and in some cases years before I work on pets, and it's just because I tend to work on whichever pet strikes me inspirationally at any given time. Usually once I do have inspiration I can write the story fairly quickly though, usually within an hour or a day.

If you attempt to force creativity, the creativity comes out forced and wrong. You just have to wait for it to actually hit rather than attempting to force it and make it happen.

As for inspiration, watching stuff, reading books, pretty much anything can serve as inspiration really.

I know what you mean since I'm in the same shoe right now :(. For me, sometimes it's the lack of inspiration. Sometimes it's the lack of the right mindset for writing (which is my current status xD). I can spend months without working on a pet, then, suddenly get the motivation/inspiration to finish a pet in three days. My past experience tells me that I just need to wait it out, and not forcing it too much. As for general inspiration, I'm with @ edge since I got most of mine from things I watch.

If you don't need to make room for other pets, I'd say keep your current pets just in case. Anyways, best of luck getting back to your pets :)!
