Seeing as the thread I posted in was too old, I'll remake it as I was given permission to.
I seriously miss the Costume Trunks. They were one of the best things on site. There was one teeny, tiny, but at the same time massive problem: you got a massive amount of stuff for a price that was beyond cheap.
$5 USD for a trunk that had a male and female set and anywhere from 12-16 or so pieces in each set is really unfair. $5 would take care of the cost that it would take to draw one super small hair accessory or something equally small. I worked for a very short time for another pet site and I learned very quickly how much artists were paid. I can tell you that it'd be way, way more than $5 for all that work.
I want to see these come back, but at a price that is becoming to all the time, effort and creativity that is put into each set.
Reading over the old thread, others had the same idea as I did: have each costume trunk laid out so that you could buy it in the same format that you can Boutique items. You'd get a discount if you bought the whole set, or you could buy all individual pieces that you wanted for a higher price.
The only difference is that the hairstyles wouldn't be redeemable just because they never were in the past.
If you were to buy a whole set, it would be put into your inventory in a trunk. The trunk would look the same for both male and female sets only it would have the following name:
Example:
Trunk of the Wilds (insert gender here) Cash Shop
That way, if you wanted to give the trunk as a gift, you could. Would save on boxes in the Gift Center lol
I've always wanted to pick and choose through the trunks because not always would I want the whole thing. However, the way they were, you were forced to take the whole set. There were many times I did want the entire set, but not always. There were also times where I wanted more than one item in the set, but you were, once again, made to buy the entire set.
There could be a separate section in the CS for them again, the main buying page looking like the Boutique page, where you can see the sets, and have the break-down on the next page.
The amount of items in each trunk and in each individual gender's set wouldn't need to be compromised this way if they came back as the trunks would be given their proper pricing if set up the same as the Boutique.

I support this idea. Many players miss the old costume trunks so this would be the ideal way to produce the kind of sets which used to be in them.
you were one that shared in the idea :) I noticed this after I made my post in the old thread :)

I wouldn't mind having the trunks back to pick and choose pieces for 125 CSC each like the boutique. I never want the full sets anyway, but there are some pieces I would like. I don't really think we need to get the set in trunk form if we buy the whole thing, but hey whatever.
I just wanted to comment real quick and say the issue wasn't that artists were literally only getting paid five dollars to make a trunk. The problem is that it takes 150-200 people buying a five dollar trunk just to break even on what the site paid for all of that artwork. And also the fact that one artist works on a trunk, so that person is basically tied up for the month and not focusing as much on other items/events/pets/what have you.
exactly. The lovely artists (including yourself, if you worked on trunks) just weren't earning what you were putting out on trunks. It didn't feel right. It never dawned on me until I worked for that pet site for a very brief time.

I wouldn't mind seeing trunks revamped (there are still some that need it right?) where they are around maybe a short time and yeah buy the pieces you want (and have the option to buy the full trunk if you want all the pieces)
I'd love this. The trunks were my absolute favorites
, no but I mean, we WERE earning it. We still got paid for everything we drew. The site was only breaking even or making a small profit (or possibly even a loss, in the case of unpopular trunks.)
A price increase would potentially help the site, but at the same time, if people weren't willing to pay five bucks to get a whole bunch of stuff, why would MORE people be willing to pay over five bucks for less stuff?
Honestly, if they brought the old trunks back, they can easily keep them at 500CSC. Why? Because it isn't costing them /any more money/ to rerelease them. They aren't drawing more art. They are literally just making them available again. And that's not a loss at all.
If they were to MAKE new trunks, then sure, price it similar to the boutique. But honestly, I'd probably never buy the (old) trunk items at 125 a pop.
Surely the same argument could apply to the Cash Shop Boutique sets. How many people buy complete sets of everything released?
Sets in a costume shop needn't have as many items as the old costume trunks used to have. If the individual items colour matched other clothing items on the site it would make these individual pieces very versatile.
I only bought twice a full costume trunk back in the days. I wouldn't do it again because 1) The art is outdated and weird looking now 2) I never want every items so it seems like a waste to me. A revamp of these old trunks would be really interesting. The people aready owning them won't need to get them again. For those that missed on them, you guys can do it in a form of a Boutique instead of getting the whole thing at 125csc each.
My idea for a Costume Shop was that it should contain new sets in the pricing style of the Cash Shop Boutique.
I made this thread moreso going forward with new trunks if they come back again. This wouldn't be for old trunks. Those come up with Hustler, sometimes

I think there's a distinction, though. Boutique sets are purely clothing, and outside of a few outlandish pieces (like horns or wings), there's gonna be more versatility with the pieces overall. Costume trunks are very gimmicky and, depending on the trunk, pretty niche.
Don't get me wrong, that's why I loved making trunks (especially as a way to draw potential TC fodder) but there are a lot of pieces that just aren't going to be used by many people and only end up being there to make a theme work. Like the counters/candy rack/held sodas/held ice cream in the Soda Fountain trunk, or the spirit animals/little plant/staves/hell, most of the Forest Shaman trunk. It might be more creative, but what does that matter if nobody wants it?
I think the themes we sometimes do in the CS are spiritual successors to trunks. Stuff like the space items, or all of the Pilfered items. There's a theme, but it's not all wearables, and we still get to be creative with the other pieces. I mean, I wouldn't be opposed to trunks making a comeback at all, but it makes sense why we don't really do them anymore.
Are all the pieces in Boutique sets equally popular or are there some items which hardly anyone buys?
I wouldn't mind at all if the themes ended up as successors to trunks - this would please people who want non-wearables as well as those who like clothing. Perhaps we could have a special shop for themes which was stocked as often as the Cash Shop boutique.
I prefer the themed sets with minions, stickers, to trunks. Because I do have all of the ice cream parlor theme you mentioned! But I'll never use them on my avatar. Ever. Even if they're super pretty, you're right, they're not that useful outside of theme challenges
Heh, the Soda Fountain trunk was the only one I ever bought. Old-timey things appeal to me, what can I say?
I'm going to be frank and say one of the BIGGEST problems with the trunks was, like so many other things, black friday.
98% of the time I thought "omg those items are lovely-- I'm totally going to buy those during Black Friday". Why? Because there's literally nothing about MCTs that's pressing.
Do they retire a few months after release? No. Collection items included? No. Well, after the fact some were made into food. Yeah but there's 904305 food items onsite, those 5 can wait a few more months. Sure wearables are kinda collectible but really the same thing applies here as it does to food.
Second biggest problem is it's only really appealing to one demographic, two if you're lucky; wearables + sometimes TCs, and sometimes foodies. So if someone doesn't care about at least one of those things, they're not interested, and if it's strictly wears there's clauses. If they're a collector they'll still be holding out for a good deal and if it's style they'll only buy if it's appealing.
While I really loved MCTs in theory, most of the time I waited because I knew every Black Friday they all get slashed in half. If they came back, and were going to be put on sale I will 100% guarantee that I'd still wait for Black Fridays because nothing in them is typically pressing. I think the only one's I've paid full price for were one of the Soda Jerks and maybe one or two if they were going to retire inb4 a sale took place.
I understand BF sales and all, but the cash shops everything half off is one of the biggest reasons the site doesn't see a return in art for most of the year. It's already taken a good step away from that (assuming no one forgets and goes half off crazy), but if MCTs ever ever made a come back they'd have to be excluded too.
That said, one tl;dr later, I'd much rather see sets like these become more of a constant thing again:
Y'know where there's just a flat rate of 10-15 items that're all themed around the same thing for $5 -BUT- not all of them are wearable (not don't have to be, aren't)! So you'd get a little bit of wears/books/plushies/minions/foods to appeal to more people and no male/female set.
Nobody is talking about bringing back Costume Trunks as such. The discussion is about having a Costume Shop with completely new sets of items priced like the Cash Shop Boutique items.
Having a shop for themes instead of a costume shop would be even better, especially if most of the items had a dual purpose.
