Recently, I've come to like the idea of possibly getting a nipple piercing. My main excuse being is because one of my nipples is slightly inverted and Im super self conscious about it and I HATE to even look at it. My gf doesn't mind it and thinks that I shouldn't get a piercing because of the healing process and risk of infection. I also think they're pretty sexy, and with me already hating my body and having no self confidence whatsoever, I think it could help give me a boost.
I'm not concerned about the actual piercing. I know it's gonna sting like hell, but Im sure I can handle it. Like my gf said, I too am worried about infections and the healing. Pretty much the only thing holding me back at this point. So my question is, does anyone have nipple piercing(s)? If so, what are your suggestions?
It's something that I really want too .. but man I'm so so chicken x__x I'm not afraid of needles, but it's such a touchy pleace.
and .. I did not help at all. But I support you? (I guess)
I don't have them, but here are some cons to think about: Pain, risk of infection, not healing properly/scarring, cannot breast feed a child (I'm assuming you're female since it doesn't say on your profile or hover info; apologies if I'm wrong!), future sexual partner finding it unappealing.
Regardless of your decision, I would definitely take some time to think about it. There's no rush. ^^
Nipple piercings aren't much harder to heal than any other piercing. It really just depends on your body. Just make sure you choose a piercer who has experience piercing inverted nipples as they can be a bit trickier to pierce in some cases. Make sure the studio is clean and that they use high quality, internally threaded jewelry. Some examples of what to look for are jewelry pieces by Anatometal, BVLA, Neometal, and Industrial Strength. Lower quality jewelry that is not implant grade can degrade over time, often while its still in your body.If you have any metal allergies, such as nickel, make sure the piercer is aware. Personally, I recommend titanium as it is more biocompatible than stainless/surgical steel and is able to anondized into different colors. Unfortunately, it can't be anondized into red or black so anything in those colors that's advertised as titanium is likely alloyed with titanium and has a coating on the metal that will eventually flake off. Make sure to follow proper aftercare. Do a saline soak at least once a day for 5-10 minutes using either a prepackaged saline mixure with no additives or 1/4 teaspoon of non-iodinzed sea salt dissolved in 8oz. of water. Make sure to wash your hands before touching it and to leave it alone if you're not cleaning it. The jewelry does not need to be rotated as this can actually introduce dirt into the healing fistula. Do not use any ointments as this prevents air circulation. More detailed aftercare instructions can be found on the Association of Professional Piercers website. They also have a ton of other info that could probably answer any questions you have about the healing process or piercings in general.
Pros can include an increase in self-confidence as well as self-esteem, can make your nipple seem more aesthetically pleasing (especially if you already feel self conscious about it), possible increase in sensitivity, and it could make your nipple stand out more.
Cons include risk of infection, the risk of rejection, possible migration, being pierced too deep or too shallow, and temporary pain during the initial piercing as well as occasionally during the healing process.
If at any point you suspect an infection,do not remove your jewelry as this can cause the piercing to close, trapping the infection, and creating an abscess. Instead, go see your piercer. They can tell you whether or not it's just irritated, infected, migrating, or in the process of rejecting. Irritation and infection can be fixed, although an infection does require going to the doctor to get antibiotics. Even if you decide at this point that you want to retire the piercing, wait to do so until the end of the entire course of antibiotics has been taken. Migration may or may not turn into rejection. A rejecting piercing should be taken out to minimize the amount of scar tissue. It may be repierced at a later date.
(Additionally, not being able to breastfeed is a myth. Obviously you can't breastfeed if your piercing is still healing, but a well healed piercing poses no problems. You just have to take out the jewelry beforehand since it's a choking hazard if one of the ends comes loose.)
Sorry for the long wall of text, but I try to answer piercing questions as thoroughly as possible. There's a lot of misinformation out there that simply isn't true and only stigmatizes the industry, making it harder for people to get safe, quality piercings. Thanks for taking the time to read. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them!
Fieryvortex pretty much covered everything, so I will just share my experience! Have both pierced, a year in at this point and I love them! They look and feel great. And I'm a person who doesn't like needles! :-)
hello!!! i had both of my nipples pierced. i loved them a lot. made me feel really confident about my boobs as i really hated them. however, i had an awful time when it came to healing....this is a TMI but my personal experience was that especially around the time i was due on my period they would ooze puss. it was kind of gross. i had them pierced at a place that i've been to before (i got my septum pierced there and it healed fine and i've had no issues with it and i've had it for almost 3 years), but the first time i got one of them pierced, the guy pierced it with a smaller bar and i didn't know this until a few days later when the swelling pretty much engulfed the whole bar. second nipple was pierced with a bar that was too big and i snagged it on things from time to time. i'm not too sure if its the fact my body wasn't all too happy about having them in, or if it was the piercers that i went to. i took them out in the end. but i plan on getting them repierced as i absolutely loved the way they looked. my boyfriend works with one of the best in the industry so i'm hoping i'll have more luck the second time around ^_^

My nipple piercings are by far my favorite piercings. Healing can be a bit tedious (roughly 12 months) so if you're not okay with constantly having to clean them and protect them, then you probably shouldn't get them. Sports bras are your best friend (that is if you're female). I got mine done in the winter so that I could swim in the summer without risking infection. is wrong about the breast feeding part. Nipple piercings do not make your nipples dysfunctional. The only complication with breast feeding is that you have to remove your jewelry when doing so, if you even decide to breast feed at all.
As for infection, as long as you do what you're supposed to with your care, they shouldn't get infected. Clean them with a sea salt soak 2-3 times per day and stay away from standing water like baths, pools, hot tubs, lakes, etc. I've never had a piercing reject or get infected and if it happens, you will know.
pretty much said it all, but if you want to then you should go for it. I've had ear piercings more painful than my nips.

lmao I literally never said it makes your nipples disfuntional. smh. as others have said, if the jewelry is in, a baby cannot be fed. Thus I mentioned it, because it's something for the OP to consider in the grand scheme of their life.
actually sometimes it depends on how the piercer has pierced said area, especially with nipple piercings, if they're done too shallow than it can lead to rejection. also you might be allergic to a certain metal that the piercer uses that you didn't know you were allergic to, which can obviously lead to infection. not only that but it depends on how big the initial bar is...if its too small then it can lead to all sorts of issues (such as the area actually swelling over the bar which can sometimes be horrific). sometimes it doesn't matter how clean you are about a piercing, it can still have issues.

I was 21 when I got my nipples pierced. Fun night! I mean, I had to quit my first job cause of a crazy abusive boss, so of course my friends got me wasted. The idea to finally pierce my nipples came to mind and wouldn't leave, so at around 1 AM we started making phone calls... Our party grew, and people brought more beer to our spot at the river, and more people made phone calls, until Nermal answered ^-^ Nermal grabbed his keys and his assistant, hopped in his van, picked up what was left of our party, and opened up his parlor for us well after 3 in the morning. He gave me a killer deal and I gave him artistic license. The rest of that story is caught on camera, lost somewhere with a phone that got lost some other night.
They were cool. Total showpieces ;) helped slightly with my inverted right nipple and a little unique cause I let Nermal do them at an angle. A year later I put spikes on them and called them my Boobie Traps.
But... they never really healed. They've been out for more than a couple years now and they STILL get goopie :/ sooo not hot. But, that seems like it's probably a girl thing - I'm pretty sure it has to do with the milk ducts or whatever cause mine and a lot of my girlfriends got nipple discharge before any body modification... but I've known a TON of guys with their nipple(s) pierced and they don't tend to have issues unless they're one of those super healers who can't have a surface piercing for 10 minutes without it migrating out.
Pros? - It's something fun and wild that has the potential to make you a handful of memories reflecting that.
Cons? - You're altering your body and opening it up to the risk of infection. There's a chance this could be something you regret more than cherish.
If I were you, I'd test my body and my resolve with a piercing in a slightly less sensitive place to see how my body reacts before committing to anything.
