What's the deal with status.subeta.net? It was implemented after the last major crash, presumably because of the complaints that the site was down so long without proper staff communication.

The problem is, the status page doesn't actually tell us anything useful.

The site went down for a while last night, so I checked the page only to see this:

Nothing. According to the status page, absolutely nothing was wrong with Subeta, and the site has been running flawlessly since February 9th.

What's the point of giving us a status page if it doesn't log any errors?

I agree. After being unable to access the site last night, I checked the status site and it said everything was normal. I was thoroughly confused. 😔

I have seen it do that a lot. I'm not sure if it's broken or they just put it up to fix something without say? Idk.

Does the error page need an error page?

This has been annoying me too. Not only does it only ever say everything is operational, but there is NOTHING logged in "Past Incidents." The site was down for a full hour yesterday. You'd think that'd be major enough to count as an incident. And yet, nothing.

Why did staff do so much promoting of this status site if it's just going to be absolutely worthless to us?

Yeah, unfortunately there wasn't a setting for memcache and the admins who have access can only click "this thing is down", not make new services.

I'm also giving more non-technical staff members access to that panel and the ability to mark things, so that should help a lot going forward. Yesterday was absolutely a failure of the system :(

Thank you for the future changes to it, I've noticed a few times in the past week things should be on the status that haven't shown up :P

Haha wow, silly me. I had assumed it was some kind of automatic process that recorded the site's incidents as they happened. But it's just a place for staff to mark when something happens, I'm not going to bother checking it anymore. It has never had anything any time I've checked it, now I know why ;)

For anyone who wants to check if Subeta (or any site for that matter) is actually truly down, then you can go here and just type in Subeta.net in the search bar:

http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/

Hope you all find it useful :)

Well, status.subeta now shows this lovely bit

Would've been nice to know in advance (ahem, on site, not having to look elsewhere) that there would be possible down time from 11pm onward... since, you know, it was /scheduled/

It might really be a bit more useful for the common user too if there was some kind of notice board that staff could post to; for instance acknowledging that there's a problem happening right now and they're waiting for tech staff to come online, or when the tech staff actually get online, or what kind of progress is being made every couple hours or so (on big downtimes at least). A subeta-status twitter feed or something?

Right now it feels like there's not much interaction at all other than just showing if there's an issue with the servers which isn't exactly all that reassuring, at least to my mind.

I expected the status page to be automatic, more like this page, to give us real-time updates on whether the servers were crashing or not. Yeah, the Terrorcoon tells you the site is down, but the point of the status page was to give us more detailed information.

Instead, every time the site goes down, the status page still tells me everything is fully operational. Obviously that's not the case, so this is really frustrating.

It's like the page is functionally useless, and was just added to try to pacify the userbase.

There is a Subeta FB page, Twitter and Tumblr account that can all be used for this.

They can be, yes, but rarely actually are, or at the very least not to a useful extent.

Last night, Facebook actually updated quickly, with all information the staff member (I think it was ) had.

I don't see the need for a notice board. It won't add much more than Facebook already does.

Perhaps the down page just needs to be revised so users are actually directed to the place that staff is using as an information hub.

Telling us to go to the status page for more info but then putting the info on FB is a little illogical.

I find http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ to be more reliable when checking these things.

Not very likely either site would help much anyway. If Subeta is showing the "Subeta is down" page, the site is accessible. Just not working as normal. They would probably report Subeta as "up".

Last night when I brought the site down, I tried to get a message up on the front page as detailed as possible and replied to people on FB/twitter until 6am when took over. I honestly forgot to update the status page (it's a pretty new thing we are using and this has been my first time being the main one on while things break) while replying to people and trying to get people online. Next time, I can def do a more updated twitter feed though last night (letshopethereisn'tanextime) it would've been the same "still calling, site still down" haha.
