Hey guys, my college english class requires me to do an oral presentation that involves a process or steps.
I'm just going to quote my teacher .. "Choose a process or concept related to your field of study or future career that you would like to teach others about. Choose something that involves steps or actions done in a particular sequence".
My field of study is social work (as in social worker, working with disability, mental illness..). I just can't find anything to work on? It's not like I can make a volcano out of glue and newspaper. An idea, someone? ;u;
I'm not sure if this would work, but what steps would you take to approach someone with a specific disability or mental illness? If you're giving them therapy and they're upset, how do you calm them down? How would you work with someone who has -insert mental illness here- ? What steps would you take to help them cope/function/remember/etc?
[flower=joy]
Thank you!
I cannot do that since I'm not at this stage in my study yet :/
But surely you can do some research? Even if you're not a certified expert yet, it's stuff you will be doing/others in your field do and you can definitely read up on it. If you don't know about it, find out. Pick something like therapy animals or something else that's very specific (just as an example, I don't know your particular area of study). Maybe even emphasize that it's difficult to use clear steps since you're closely working with people, and people are very different.
Since your field of study deals so much with people instead of science or other things with clear procedures, I think you'll have a neat perspective.
You could do something like identification of certain mental illnesses or disabilities? Or maybe the pathogenesis - how the diseases come about, and the steps you would take to manage someone with it. Like dementia or something.

I am not sure if I feel comfortable to speak about mental illness and crisis. I only have a range of 4-5 minutes maximum to speak about something. I have to make it interesting with charts, designs .. stuff.
I thought about a "DIY: How to cope with college exams" because I sure as hell know how many students come to see our intern in social work during the exam rush.
