Anybody else out there who has suffered for the past month+ with this snow junk every week?
Like it's been a struggle. Getting to work. Numerous snow days. Shoveling every weekend/Monday. At least in New England (RI and Mass). Maybe the cycle will break soon?
TMI and I need to scream somewhere!!!...my house has water damage from "ice dams". There's a bucket in my room under my window, my wall on the outer edge is growing bubble blisters that pop with water. It's not like HUGE water stain spots, just little patches here and there on the edges. But still. Water ages stuff like 20+ years in a snap. My room is ugly. We are going to have to repair and repaint 5 rooms plus other stuff. Woo is me.
Oh no! Does this mean air from outside is getting into your room? :(
I lived in an old New-England house with a bad draft around the windows last winter (the snow wasn't nearly as bad) and had a cold for pretty much 3 months straight. What are your walls made of?
- well, there is/was A LOT of snow on the roof. Last Monday we removed as much snow as we could reach but it's still too late. Our attic and house...well it's old (built 1919) and not properly insulted. The snow on the roof melts because our attic is getting a bit of heat. Ice builds up on the edges and then here is water that builds up behind that and goes backwards under the shingles. That it what is coming in. We never had this issue before. In 25 years. We have been trying ice melt and what not...
Our walls are made of horse hair plaster. It has to be really cold out for me to feel it coming through.
Yikes! That doesn't sound good. Does this mean you'll have to wait till it's warm to get work done on it, or try fixing it yourself? This might be super tacky but you could try putting pool tarp over the roof.
Changing the water from leaks is such a pain, having to keep an eye out all the time is enough to drive anyone crazy. It's good you're staying warm though. hugs
I am beyond ready for spring to arrive. I'm so tired of all this snow, which is now all ugly, crusty, and brown from road dust. The worst part is, it will take quite a while for it all to melt since there's so much of it.
The fact that it's Monday and is not snowing is shocking, sadly.
Poor you, that must suck so much!
We've had one (!) day of snow here were I live this time and that's already a lot, lol In most years the sea keeps all the snow away, it just becomes cold and damp and ugly. Still, I prefer that over summer heat any day.
- a tarp won't work, the ice on my roof just needs to melt and go away.
When it melts we are going to have to see how bad the damage is. So far it looks like sanding, patching, painting, corking, but before all that my dad has been talking about adding more insulation in the attic first. We're not sure if there are shingles ruined and/or if we will have issues with some of the walls. There really isn't anything else we can do until spring. My room need to be reworked anyways, it's been 10 years since it was refreshed. eh.
My goodness, idk if anybody else has an old house that bangs and pops when it's cold. It's really creepy when it does it in the quiet of the night. Anywho! Holding on until spring!
We just got hit for the first time in Texas this winter. Luckily, we haven't had another snowpocalypse again. It being Texas EVERYTHING closes as soon as there's a little ice out lol. ._.;
We've had a relatively mild winter where I live. There were some -20c days but mostly it's been quite warm and snowy and cloudy. To be honest the cloudiness is what bothers me most. The longest time I went without seeing the sun at all was three weeks, I think.
I'm ready for spring, but the fact is it's only February... it's not unusual for the snow and cold weather to come back in March and stay until late April. :p
Wow, that's just crap. :( I'm in Michigan, and we're actually doing pretty well this year, except for super cold arctic bullshit. And the fact that I have the flu right now. Bleh. I actually love snow though...unless it causes problems like yours. hugs Hopefully it gets better for you soon!
Oh wow, that sucks a lot; Hopefully winter is slowing down for you guys and coming to an end. New England definitely cannot take anymore of this weather. D:
I'm not that far up North, over in PA. So my side of the state hasn't been badly hit with snow; just here and there with lots of winter storm warnings for a lot worse happenings than anything. Plenty of days with negative degree weather, but otherwise, it's been kind of well?? Haven't had to call off work or anything, so there's that.
That sounds awful.. :( My family lives in Massachusetts. I live in Indiana. We've been getting snow on and off. It kinda stinks because my windshield wipers stink. They only work when they feel like it. I'm talking about the windshield wiper fluid. Hard to explain but yes I feel the pain. It sucks driving on the highway in the morning and it's dark and you can barley see because your fluid didnt get on the side of the window you wanted.. I just hate this winter in general. Ever Winter Quarter is always hard for me. Depression, no passion for school or my work. It's awful :/
Ping me please so I can respond to your messages~! <3
Hey-o! It's happening again for me - There's a snow coming, Sunday into Monday again. I shoveled heavy slushy snow just last Sunday.
I have been keeping track of each noteworthy snow storm on my calender at work. And like I don't have it in front of me, but it has snowed every Sunday/Monday for over a month and a half. Why? Why? I don't do Mondays.
So far my water leak issue has stopped. I put my room back together today. Hopefully it's over, a lot of the ice dam has melted. idk
I might be in the minority, but I'm living in the southern hemisphere now and I MISS WINTER SO BAD. I really need it. I want to wear cute boots and tights and coats instead of sweating in a tank top and shorts all day. It succkkkkss. I should just keep moving between the hemispheres every 6 months so I can live in fall/winter FOREVER. My family's on the US east coast so they're getting the full brunt of it right now.
It's weird, instead of being negatively affected by winter, my saddest months are actually March-April. It really bums me out.
- I wish I could ship you truck loads of snow. Or create a portal and keep shoveling it over. lol! I think I get like that with both summer and winter. When either is too long and tough I start thinking of the reverse. I got plenty of boots, but they are really starting to look tired and my tank tops are on the bottom of my draws are all wrinkled. I like fall, that's a good medium.
~ it is march 1st. it is snowing. T__T i just cleaned my driveway and i'm so cranky about it!!
i live in Puerto Rico & it doesn't snow here. it's a hot, island paradise all year-round (sometimes a stormy island paradise but still) >:3
I suffer from the opposite! I live in Finland, and I have been waiting for the "real winter" for months. It's almost spring, and the real winter haven't showed up yet, just rain and warm weather. I want snow and ice!!!

I'm done with all the snow and ice. I live on the highest point in a heavily wooded, mountainous area. I haven't been able to go anywhere in the past month other than a few times when the ice was melted enough for the car to make it down the driveway. The past couple of days have been warm enough to melt all the snow, causing mass flooding. Then it snowed again today. So I doubt I'll be going anywhere anytime soon, other than to get groceries when needed.
Whelp, after a month and a half, I think the cycle has finally broken here. It didn't snow today, and doesn't seems like it will this coming week. It's finally in the 40s.
The water leak in my room has gotten much worse and the spots are getting bigger. New spots are appearing else where in the house. This week someone is coming to look at it to see how much we can claim for insurance. I'm afraid the whole north wall in my room will need to be torn out because it is soaked.
