I got my septum pierced on October 10th or 11th. It hasn't given me any real issues, and it's been four months now. However I know that heal time normally isn't ever this short for piercings, so I've never considered it "healed" (even though I've stopped really cleaning it frequently or paying it too much mind.)
Tonight, one of my balls fell out of my piercing. The insert is really small so it's really hard to get back in. I managed, but not too long later it fell out again. I'm going to go see my piercer and have him fix/replace it on Tuesday, but I don't really have anything I can do until then.
Here are my questions for you guys!
: Any tips for getting this ball to stay on? It's almost like the screw part is damaged so it doesn't stay in as well. My main concern is that I normally wake up with it all the way over to one side, so I'd hate for it to fall out and then my piercing come out in my sleep.
: Due to this, I've been thinking about just changing my piercing out. Do you think it's okay after only four months? I don't want to jeopardize the healing process, but I just thought now might be a convenient time.
: On the topic of , if I were going to change piercings, I'm pretty interested in getting a clicker! However, I don't know what size my gauge is? There are 14g and 16g, I keep trying to look at the pictures but it's really hard for me to tell. I want to assume mine is the smallest but I am unsure. If I posted a picture of my piercing, would anyone be able to tell me the size?
Thanks in advance!! Sorry I'm dumb. I'm 19 and this has been my first piercing ever, and I don't really trust much that comes up on google. I just wanted to ask people who probably have some experience with this!
I don't have a septum piercing, but I do have 2 curved barbells in my cartilage, and did lose the ball on one of them about 2 months after I got pierced. Do you have an internally or externally threaded barbell? Since you're worried about the barbell rotating out of your septum, here's some quick temporary fixes - If it's externally threaded, just screw part of a pencil eraser on as a temporary "ball." If it's internally threaded, try to wind a small rubber band around the end to act as a makeshift ball. I tried to tape the end of my barbell when I lost a ball, that was stupid and painful since it was still a relatively fresh piercing lol.
I've heard that septum piercings heal relatively quickly since they're generally pierced through the sweet spot, so it is quite possible that yours is fully healed already. Since you're going to see your piercer on Tuesday, I would wait until then to ask him if it's ok for you to start changing the jewellery.
I would also just wait to ask your piercer what gauge you were pierced at. It'll be very difficult to determine the size just through a picture, even though I personally have 14g barbells. I believe the standard size for septums is 14g, but if you have a smaller nose then it could be possible it was done at 16g.
Thank you so much!! It is internally threaded. I feel like the rubber band is helping the ball to stay on.
I'm glad it seems to be helping! :) (I forgot to mention that my piercings are over 2 years old now and fully healed - but of course the only time I ever lost a ball was when it was still relatively fresh and painful lol)
Your piercer should be able to tell you what size your septum was pierced at. As for the ball coming off repeatedly, I recommend buying a few spares balls just in case. That way if you do lose one, you have another on hand. I used to loosen mine in my sleep before I switched to my retainer. I had left jewelry out for a week and a half and was able to reinsert it just fine. Mine's a year old though, but if your jewelry were to fall out between now and Tuesday, your piercer will easily be able to get jewelry into it.
Clickers are pretty comfortable. Just get one that's nice quality ( like Industrial Strength, Anatometal, BVLA,etc.)since the lesser quality clickers tend to be harder to open. I recommend titanium since it can be anondized into different colors and there's no worry about nickel or other irritating metals.
