This may sound a bit odd, but I need ideas on different ways to say dating, girlfriend, boyfriend, couple, wife, or husband for something I'm working on. I'm aware of the standard terms like spouse, partner, sweetheart, lover, beau, and that horrid over-used word bae. I'm looking for words that aren't commonly used such as suitor and courting or terms from fictional stories like sparkmate (transformers) or matesprit (homestuck). Does anyone know of any others words that can be added to my list? I don't care if it's fictitious (movie/game/book...etc) or real (maybe from another time period). Any help is appreciated.

I found this article off-site: 47 Ways to Refer to Your Significant Other Than ‘Boyfriend’ or ‘Girlfriend’ Suggestions 12 and 13 use some... uhmmm... choice language but the rest are reasonable suggestions I think. (12 and 13 might even work, depending on your characters.) ---edits--- Just noticed 33... Another one that could be a little inappropriate. -end edit- I hope that helps.

(I'm giggling at "my old man" because one of my characters uses that to refer to his significant other... Who is 5 years older than him. XD Anyway... -sinks back into the shadows-)

The main one coming to my mind is something I remembered from an episode of Futurama: "Fonfon Ru". According to the Futurama wiki, "A Fonfon Ru is the name of an amphibiosan marriage partner (e.g. Kif Kroker is Amy Wong's Fonfon Ru)."

[edit] Ah found another one from Futurama: "Smizmar" From the Futurama wiki "According to Kif, the individual that brings on initial feelings of deep love and affection is your 'Smizmar' or 'significant other'."

Thanks to both of you for the help. I appreciate the link and love some of the terms in there, especially 'paramour'. Also, the fact that was an actual thing kind of humors me. The Futurama ones are great! I really like the Fonfon Ru one because it's really fun to say. :)
