It's been literal months since I had to go to the user dashboard, and I just did now to check something, only to come upon a private (mostly, because it is in comments) conversation.

Yes, I know profile comments are TECHNICALLY public, but it's like having a conversation with someone in a public space, and you're not being loud about it. It's still extremely rude to listen in, and is rarely anyone else's business.

I really don't think I should be able to see other people's profile comments, and I feel uncomfortable knowing someone can so easily read mine if they're friends with me.

Clarification: I suggest removing seeing people's comments from the friend feed. There's really no reason anyone should be able to see the comments made by a friend on SOMEONE ELSE'S profile. I feel extremely uncomfortable knowing anyone I'm friends with has the ability to see each and every comment I send.

I support this for personal reason, but important ones. [Edit] But then, people will tell you to use Smail :c

Though profile comments are public and thus "private" conversations shouldn't be held there, I agree that it seems somewhat inappropriate to display someone else's profile comments in the friend feed. It's pretty weird to me that this even happens in the first place.

Take a site deviantart for example, you can get profile comments there and yes they're public because other people can see them but I don't get a feed of the comments my friends get and the conversations they have, even with the new addition of the watch feed. Sure, I could go to their page and just see the conversation, but that's different.

On here, people can still find your profile comments even if they're not on your page, if they really want to go through the effort and trouble to spy on you. Whatever. But having other people's profile comments in your feed is still weird.

I'm not sure if you're suggesting that comments be removed from the friend feed/user dashboard or if all comments should be private? No support if it's the latter, if only because we do have the option to take the 'private' stuff to smail.

No, just remove them from the friend feed. I don't see any reason why they should be there. Like, why do you want to be spying on the comments your friend is making on other people's profiles? It's weird.

ohh mmkay I'm with you now. :P I actually wouldn't mind seeing comments taken out of the friend feed, because yeah, they're not relevant to me at all and it is a bit weird getting half of someone else's conversation in my feed. the friend feed could do with a bit of a facelift in general, actually. :x

And what I find especially privacy invading is that it's comments sent by the friend to someone else's profile. It's not even the comments they get on their profile, it's the comments they're sending to someone else. Why does ANYONE need to see that?

For example, checking no for comments, means that you won&;t see any of your friends comments on your feed.

From the filter page

The Friend Feed displays the following

Forum Reply Pet Color Achievement Gain Adopt a Pet Abandoning a Pet Wishlist Wishlist Removal Game Score Comment Battle Winning Status Update Trade Creation Creating a Pet Item Hunt Winning Auction - hell this isn't even a feature anymore Forum Topic Creation Token Shop

The stuff in bold really seems unnecessary in my opinion.

I would like to see the Comments thing removed altogether, it does seem rather bizarre

But comments are public anyway, everyone can get your user ID and put in the "see comments" link and read your comments, I don't see any reason why to do that, it's sick and it's a stalking lol, but the option is open for everybody. Just be more careful when you talk about something private and when you do just move to sMail. This is what I'm doing so far..

Friends Feed is like mini FB I guess..

I like having that, because sometimes I'll see it before I get any kind of forum group ping.

I think forum topic creation can be useful, too.

I agree with you on the rest of it, though.

Token shop, wishlist and the forum ones are all handy for reasons.

I dunno. I sometimes see a friend comment another friend and think 'oh, I wonder how they're doing?' and shoot them a comment myself. If you want a private conversation, use sMail. Does it make a difference if they're in the feed? Not really. People still can see each and every comment you send by checking individually.

Just because it can be public - and in many cases, people put in the effort to hide their profile comments on their actual profile - doesn't mean I need a detailed list of what my friends are commenting to OTHER PEOPLE. It's not my business, and what I say to other people isn't any of their business. It's the same as listening in to someone else's conversation just because they happen to be doing it in a public space. It's creepy, and rude.

Not every conversation warrants the effort of an smail, I only use those for super private things, akin to talking to someone in a private place. But again, that doesn't mean what I say should be free for everyone else to see so easily.

You know what I support?

The ability to change our friend feed privacy again, which was something we had the ability to do up until rather recently (first noticed it MIA a week or two ago), and now apparently we're forced into being forever public about everything.

Like, if we had these abilities back, then if I didn't want my comments to show to everyone I could just remove it-- and if I don't, then clearly I don't mind and I don't have a problem with the world seeing everything I say :'D!

... actually though, I've never understood why comments were included on the friend feed in the first place. I can understand boards, but it's not like you're going to jump into the middle of comments or something (that's like showing your friends you offered on a trade lot, no purpose what-so-ever). HOWEVER, I also support giving us our options back :I

Being able to block people from seeing certain things from me in the friend feed would be a perfectly reasonable compromise to me. I'm a private person in real life, of course it's going to extend to my online life. People just do not need to see every comment and forum post I make.

Yeah we had this ability, until very recently. I have no idea why it was revoked (perhaps not enough people being social?) but... I'd like the ability to change my personal privacy options again. Unless I still can, which in case I'd like the url and link to be returned to the friend feed page r__r;

I do also agree, though, that the comments shouldn't even be on there one way or another.

Item hunt and winning auctions are incredibly pointless too. Like, congrats I guess that you one that 10k random items, or got to level 23 on Item Hunt? I really don't care? Do people actually want to show that kind of thing off?

SUper pointless, but not ... utterly creepy I guess (I'd rather know they got some achievement, or beat a challenger than what they said to so and so). Actually the only things in the feed I find of interest is posts/topic creation, pet colorings (I do like knowing when friends change their pets, gives me a reason to check them out-- but I'ma pet person and many of my friends are too), and stuff like token shop buys (hey, maybe I missed one, dunno!).

But comments are creepy, and the challengers/achievements/auctions (lol weren't auctions removed?? Why is that on there still..) and whatnot are just, questionable.

Maybe it's because I'm not on facebook and don't have experience with that kind of feed, but the whole friend feed thing in general just weirds me out. Why do you need to know every thing that's going on with someone you're friends with at all times?
