A lot of users seem to be joining Team Dolly now, in the last few days of the snowball contest. I can only assume this is because they believe Team Dolly is winning, when she's actually not doing so well (29 points behind at the time of posting).
I think the Snowballs Thrown number may be confusing some users, and further expanding the gap between the two teams. Perhaps the Score value could be 2x as large as the other numbers, and centered under the character image? Having people actually know the score would make the contest more interesting, as Tobias is the clear leader at the moment, and Team Dolly has been struggling to occasionally close the gap.
In any case, I am very glad the Subeta Team decided to go with score/users to judge this contest--I feel like that is a fair way to account for the unequal number of users on each team, and prevent everyone from jumping on the winner.
Anyone else have any thoughts?
I agree and I don't agree.
I joined Team Candy even when Toys was in the lead, because I like candy. (Though I do admit I have been promoting Tobias hoping more people would jump on that bandwagon and stop freeloading on Dolly). So maybe people are just joining Team Dolly because they like candy, like the title, and want the item (let's face it, it's probably going to be in higher demand since it's more likely also going to be a food).
Though I also think the numbers are super misleading. I can't even figure out the snowball/member count every time I go to the page because everything is squished together on my screen. Just as I was about to take a screenshot, it looks like the page has been altered a bit, so that helps.
Though I really do think people are joining Dolly for the item because $$$profit$$$
Considering it literally lists the scores, I don't understand how people could be overlooking that and focusing on the number of thrown snowballs. It seems clear to me.
I'm on Team Dolly and joined cause she is adorable. I'm guessing most people are doing the same
I joined Dollie because with my sweet tooth, there was no question of what team I would be on. :)
Not sure how I feel about the scoring, but I'm having fun no matter.
RIP Mom, I love & miss you more than you know. Tell Dede hi.
Ocean Conservation Namibia on YouTube... they do good work! https://www.ocnamibia.org
I joined Team Dolly because I liked the title better. It was a few days after the start of the contest and she had been in second place the entire time. I understood the page perfectly.
Perhaps it would be better if we we just shown our own score, and weren't shown the actual team scores, number of users and total snowballs until the contest is over.

The numbers all run into each other on my screen. There's legit no space between snowballs thrown and number of users. It's pretty shoddy.
I like this idea. Or maybe if we were given daily standings presented by the Channel 5 reporter everyday on the news, at midnight, by the time the cron runs. c:
It says the score on the page, right next to the other stats, so i dont see how people could confuse the score with snowballs thrown. I think more people are just joining Dolly's side because they like the item or title or just like sweets more than toys :/

To be fair at first glance when I was joining, I was drawn to Team Dolly based on the sheer number of snowballs thrown.
But after I'd read the rest of the page, the scores were pretty obvious to see!
That happens to me if I shrink the width of my Firefox window. But it seems to do that with every page on the site as well.
The only text I can't figure out is unter the title "Prizes". Perhaps it's just me though, but I don't understand how this works:
It's calculating how many snowballs you need to have thrown to earn that prize.
This thread might be helpful in explaining. There's a link to Keith's post there too.
I think the text is clear enough though im sure people have joined due to misreading the scores or they just assume the total count is the number that matters.
I know that everyone in this thread is mentioning that they joined this team because candy or because cute. Nothing wrong with that at all.
It's just that this thread is by default biased, since no one is gonna jump in and post "dammit i misread the score count, wtf isnt team dolly winning, i want free prizes"
Thank you very much! Seems so logical now, but at the time I was truly confused. ^-^"
I agree with this. I think it would also help stop people from jumping on the winning team at the last minute without having to do as much work.
I'm not sure how much of a concern it is to have people join the team last minute. The scores between the two groups have been fairly close together, and if enough people jump on whoever is winning at the last minute, they could make that team lose from the sheer volume of deadweight ruining the average. That would be a bit funny, though. Perhaps they can close off people from joining 24 hours in advance.
But in general, I think the page is fairly easy to read, and that this seems a bit like... complaining simply because one team is currently not in the lead? As I said, though, the scores have been really close together throughout most of the fight, and sometimes Dolly is in the lead and sometimes Tobias is in the lead. I'm not sure bolding one number on the page is really going to make or break who wins.
I'm happy with the team I picked, even though we're fucked, just for once I'd like to end up on the winning team for an event like this :P
I don't think the text is unclear, though. Maybe a little confusing if you see that the higher amount of snowballs actually has lower points and you don't understand why, but it's not misleading.
