I thought I'd share one of my New Year's traditions (adapted for online) with the members of the Subeta community!

Everyone posts twelve sentences, one for each month of 2014. Each sentence begins with the words "In MONTH..." to be followed by I, we, my, whatever! Each line encompasses the most important, inspiring, memorable, funny, etc. moment/realization/memory/etc. of the month. The point is to be brief!

Note! Don't feel like you have to share super personal stuff! Anyone who can write at least one thing about each month can participate, even if it's "I tried tacos for the first time." :)

I'll start - but this is only fun if others join in! ( - anyone interested?)

2014 In January, I began my search for a new job somewhere in the USA but outside of FL. In February, I camped in front of my TV for days watching the Olympics. In March, I pretty much ate breads and cookies as meals all month. In April, I became the cool Aunt when I bought my nephew Minecraft for his Xbox. In May, my hubby finished his Bachelor's degree! In June, my aunt died of cancer the same week my mother was diagnosed with cancer. In July, I moved across the country from FL to CA to begin a new job. In August, my nephew learned to curse his first day of 2nd grade! In September, I officially finished "training" for my new job. In October, I dressed up as Michaelangelo from TMNT for Halloween :) In November, I made way too much Thanksgiving food for two people. In December, I realized that I fit all the criteria of a shopaholic.

P.S. I don't post in chit-chat that often, but I think this is where a thread like this belongs... If not, please let me know!

How to play IRL Everyone writes down twelve sentences on a sheet of paper, one for each month of the ending year. Each sentence begins with the words "In MONTH..." to be followed by I, we, my, whatever! Everyone shares their "letters" out loud and then the New Years party host(ess) puts the letters away, to be passed out the next new years after the next year's letters are written.

What a cool tradition! I have a horrid memory but here goes…

In January my son surprised me with chocolate cake for my birthday! In February the kids said they would be my valentine and gave me chocolate cake. How sweet! In March there was no cake. The cake was a lie. In April we celebrated Easter with an egg-shaped chocolate cake. In May, the kids gave me chocolate cake for Mother's day. In June my daughter graduated so we had cake with chocolate frosting. In July she started graduate school, but there was no cake despite my objection. In August I was going through withdrawal so we got chocolate cake. In September it was my ex's bday so I celebrated with chocolate cake, but did not share. In October we decided to skip the ToT since we're all grown up now. Guess what we got instead? Yep. A new computer game! November brought family, friends, food, and chocolate cake. December is a month of birthdays, so it is also a month of chocolate cake. Which reminds me, I need to go to the store now…

I live in MN, and whatever you've heard... It's much worse.

2014 In January, I think I finally took my Christmas decorations down. In February, I had a lovely Valentine's day with my husband. In March, I am glad I am gainfully employed. In April, was able to go to Las Vegas with my friends. In May, my son turned 18. In June, my son graduated high school. In July, we celebrated 24 years of marriage. In August, packed my son off to college (CSULB). In September, took a day off after Labor Day. In October, I retired from my employment of 26 years. In November, didn't wake up with an alarm clock. In December, just taking it easy but still gearing up for Christmas.

This is a really cute idea. I'm on my phone right now so I'll edit this post with my 12 sentences when I get to a computer. Probably in another half hour or so.

So here it is! ^-^

The Year 2014!!! In January I left a job in retail that made me feel miserable. I also joined a local board game meetup group and met some amazing and wonderful people. In February I interned at a pre-school and learned what it felt like to be constantly sick for a whole two months. In March I finished my internship and finally graduated from University. :) In April my adorable nephew came into my life and lit a light in my heart that I never knew could feel so warm. (Even though technically he was born at the end of March). In May I prepared to take the next step in my life and move out of my parent's house. In June I turned 25 and moved into my first apartment with my wonderful boyfriend. In July My best friend Alyssa got her first adult job as a high school math teacher. In August I bid a farewell to my best friend Michelle on her journey to Japan for two years as a Japanese English Teacher. In September I went apple picking for the first time (that I can remember) and made a lot of delicious Apple Crumbles. :D In October I celebrated my 9 year anniversary with the love of my life. In November I discovered the TV show Transparent (on amazon prime instant video). It's such a good show, I can't wait until season 2! In December I experienced my first luminaire on Subeta.

I had a bit of trouble with two or three of these, so they might seem like cheap cop-outs compared to the rest of these. Also, some moments are more about others than myself and yet they're some big moments in my life over the past year. It was actually so weird having done this exercise because until now I felt like my year was just a huge blur since I have been unemployed for basically the whole time, but really so much has happened in my life. And some of these moments feel like they happened a longer time ago but in reality they all happened in the past year.

I'll join in because I think this is a healthy exercise - thanks for inspiring me to do it! :) Congrats on moving to California with the new job opportunity! i hope your mom beats her cancer hugs

2014 In January, I sank low and wanted to kill myself but did not act on the impulse. In February, I aided a golden retriever who gave birth to 9 puppies and saved them all. In March, I discovered frogs in my garden pond and took many pictures of them and my flowers. In April, I hiked in the Tetons and fulfilled that lifelong dream of mine. In May, an old friend from many years ago reached out to me, she is a lifesaver! In June, I landed the largest contract ever for my baking business! In July, I got out of a negative relationship and my ex retaliated against me, causing my life to be disrupted for several months. In August, I celebrated the 1 year birthday of my dog, who God sent to save my life last year. In September, I experienced the best vacation of my life and didn’t feel any distress or pain the entire time!! In October, I decided to try to fight for life and battle my PTSD/Eating Disorder head on without fear of bearing all. In November, I fell into agony and despair during recovery of my ED but a kind soul helped me find hope, which I haven’t felt in earnest for many months. In December, I finally got affordable insurance and could see a psychologist who could really help me, after years of trying to fix myself on my own.

This was a pretty big year for me, so I'm going to Join! In January, my broke ass finally came to terms with the fact that my job was going no where and had to start looking for a new one. In February, I ordered over 300$ worth of Faux Fur on the internet. In March, my family took me on an epic trip to the Galapagos. In April, I road tripped 16 hours with some friends to Boston for a gaming convention. In May, I officially became a cosplay master. :D In June, I landed myself a new job... on the other side of the country. In July, I road tripped from Ontario to Alberta to start my new job (hey we have that in common! flor to cali is about the same distance and direction, just a couple hundred latitude further north) In August, I came in second place in a Pokemon Tournament slightly increasing my cred as a gamer. In September, I volunteered to organize my church's Christmas Craft Fair. In October, I bought a new car! In November, I travelled on the Hogwarts Express :D In December, I moved in with my sister and helped decorate for the holidays.

In January my son had his first taste of real food (peas purees) In February we went to the zoo with my mom and my brothers family. In March my son was up on all fours and almost crawling. In April he was walking along furniture. We also went to a local farm and my older son got to hold bunnies and ducks. In May I finished my Anatomy class with a B and then had surgery to have my gallbladder removed the next day. In June my husband and I started looking to buy a house. In July my youngest took his first steps unassisted and we became homeowners! In August I turned 26 and my husband got me a kitten for my birthday. My oldest also peed in the potty for the first time. In September we celebrated my son's first birthday and my older son moved to a toddler bed. In October my older son turned 3! We went to the zoo for trick or treating and had his birthday party after. We also took in a 4 week old kitten. In November my husband and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary. In December we had our first trip to the ER. My youngest had croup and pneumonia! He shared his croup with his older brother too. I have also started the process to transfer to a new college.

Mine pretty much has to do with my kids for the majority of it! Haha.

Mmmmmm.... sounds like you've had a very delicious year 🍰

Sounds like your 2015 is primed to be great - you've been able to retire and get your son out of the house ;) most of the time anyway.

Thanks for sharing! Your year was full of firsts! Hope you have a wonderful 2015 ❤️

Thanks! California has definitely been a big change for us but all for the better I hope! Your 2014 looks like it was full of grace. I hope that the upward trend continues for you ❤ Feel free to drop me a line any time you feel down! Congratulations on all you have overcome this year!

Oh man, I wish I had had as much fun as you this year. But 300$ worth of Faux Fur?!? Please tell me that was for cosplay lol

It can be hard to think of things sometimes but your answers show that you are very family-oriented and seem to have had a good year ^_^

Meteor shower, new bf, and a one-year-old kitty! That's the kind of year that makes me jealous lol

When you have little kids, it's hard for them not to be the center of your life/year ;)

This is a really neat idea!

In January, I got a tattoo symbolizing my birthday and realized family is not just blood. In February, I became an adult. In March, I house sat and it was amazing. In April, I lost my two rattie girls. In May, I got my second job (at Bath & Body Works) and I didn't graduate or go to prom as scheduled.
In June, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON (nothing of relevance) In July, Dragon Age got delayed by a month but I got to meet the lead singer of Listener! In August, I celebrated a year of being with the most astounding person I've ever met and became a manager at GameStop. In September, we finalized plans to get our first apartment! In October, we moved into the apartment and I got my first car. In November, I lost someone extremely important to me unexpectedly. I also got a new puppy named Merlot. In December, I found out I was getting laid off from Gamestop because we were shutting our store down. My best friend also found out she had cancer two days before her brother passed away.

In January I did a character design course while I was in Canada In February I did nothing but watch tons of netflix and eat junk food (the perks of not going to school) In March I realized I would have to go back to my home country the next month, hung out with my Canadian friends quite a lot In April I finally got an iPhone 5S, went back to Brazil, started my last year of High School In May I found out one of my classmates was an old internet friend of mine In June I broke my iPad... :( In July I went through some personal issues regarding my appearance, which in result made me fail a few classes In August I joined the gym In September I came back to Subeta! In October I spent lots of time with friends from my old school, I really missed them In November my family and I decided to adopt the abandoned cat we found In December I finished High School, got into College (sixth place!), and lost 18 pounds My year wasn't that exciting, but I think it went pretty nicely overall.

thank you for your sincerity and kindness, I will keep you in mind if I need someone to talk with. And you know what, you are totally right, my last year was full of grace - I wouldn't have made it through the year without it. I'm still working on staying in the fight (so to speak) but I'm told fighting is the right ting to do, so I'm trying. thank you again for inspiring me to do this thoughtful exercise, it really did need to be done. btw: California is the best place for nice weather though (on mainland US), right?! ;)

thank you. hugs I decided to take a risk and be as honest and thoughtful as I could so the exercise of going of my year would be of benefit to me more than if I only focused on the positives, you know? I'm glad I did it because it shows me the path I have been on this year and the progress I have made. I am also hoping for the best in this coming year, at least it's looking better than it did last year. And btw, I love chocolate cake - or any chocolate for that matter, your list made me smile, thanks for that :)

Wow, first apartment, first job, sounds like you had quite a year of firsts (good firsts I hope :) ).

I think it sounds exciting. You were on two continents, graduated high school, started the next chapter (college), took what sounds like an interesting class (character design)... but September is my favorite ;) You came back right in time for Subeta's holiday season!

The weather has been nice so far. It is warmer than where I was living but not as warm as where I grew up. I love warm weather so I feel like I compromised - I don't get my hot summers anymore but I also don't have to deal with cold winters either! :) So far so good!
