I couldn't find a post that was recent, or a Rule anywhere on the site. So I was just curious, during any event or anything that we may or may not need it, can we use those? (Hopefully this answers it for others that are wondering as well.)

auto-refreshers are legal because there's no way staff can see who and who isn't using them.

They are frowned on, and we frequently implement features to stop them.

They slow down the site and make it harder for everyone else to participate.

a lot of users rage over people using an auto-refresher, but it isn't technically against the rules.

- Yeah, I can see a reason for raging, sorta. But at the same time, it's nice. Was just making sure before even trying to use one.

Why not just make them against the rules even though they're hard to detect? It would discourage people from gaming the system and having a negative impact on the playing experiences of others.

Yes. And using them is unfair to those that doesn't.

I think it's a problem to make it part of the rules since someone can be reporting someone else for breaking it and, even if they are indeed breaking it, nothing can be done because it can't be detected for sure by neutral standards.

So it's basically having the disadvantage of a non-enforceable rule, which kinda takes credibility away from all other rules :x

I'd like to think that it would be pretty cut and dry to get rid of the people leaving the same page going for hours and hours. Sure, there would be sneaky Petes slipping through the cracks but doesn't that apply to all the rules theoretically?

I really don't think it's enough to say, "What's good for you is bad for everyone else. Please don't do this." Not everyone here is as great as users like you who actually care about the well-being and functionality of this site! :)

^-^; aw, well thank you! I wouldn't break rules or abuse glitches, that's for sure ;-;

Yeah, I used to think the same about running scripts (which is very much against the rules, never do it) : you can program it to run for 982749829 hours on fixed intervals (making it obvious that it isn't you) or program it to simulate breaks like a normal person would. So, making a parallel, someone ARing for 10 hours with the same exact intervals could get catched while someone ARing for an hour or two with random intervals had a chance to slip through the cracks.

But since staff has always repeated many times that it's not safe to punish people based on the information they can gather about refreshes, I get there's some technical difficulty :/ Idk. If it could be made against the rules, I'm sure most people who do it wouldn't do it anymore (nobody would risk their accounts over a handful of cheap items or event currency), but it's tricky to add a rule that's not enforceable :x

Jesus H, the lengths that people go to over games! (I'm not even talking about things that are actually serious like real cash either!)

Thanks for the explanation though. It sucks that people think like that when staff have worked so hard to put together something nice for Luminaire. It just isn't a very festive attitude for one... 😆

I know right? I'm not really sure what the sense of accomplishment is. Oh, you wrote a code that slipped through the cracks and you never got caught so you got 50 billion fake money. Congrats?! ._. (Because if someone worked hard for anything they own and/or truly enjoys it, I don't see them risking it for the sake of "trying", haha. I know I wouldn't.)

It's no problem! The snowball throwing event is a fun one, between that and server crashes I do wish it was working better. Maybe it would be nicer if there wasn't the "bulk buy" option, and the timer between buying snowballs was the same for throwing them (5 second between individual purchases and 5 second between throws). Less of an incentive to AR, possibly xD

I'm glad someone asked this. Someone suggested it to me for snowballs and I was like, they actually let people do that here? I thought Neopets was too ingrained into my lifestyle because if you get caught using an auto-refresher there, it was instant Iceville. It just seems super unfair and I can definitely see how it would slow down the site for others. :/
