Okay, so I (personally) rejoined Pottermore [since I've not been active since the beta], and was Sorted this time into Slytherin. I'm a bit torn between the two Houses. Can someone help me out with a second opinion?

I've always previously identified as a Ravenclaw, but the new information from Pottermore (particularly on the houses) has me more and more identifying with Slytherin. Particularly with Ravenclaw being said to be more associated with eccentrics (I've been told I am eccentric, but it's something I view negatively, and try to hide when I can), like Luna Lovegood, and Slytherin being more associated with the element of water and ambition. I'm clearly ambitious, having been a leader in many regards in the past - and can be manipulative when I need/want to be - but at the same time, I've been told I'm extremely intelligent, odd, while having "great" leadership qualities. For example, there's been times that I walk into a room at a party, begin talking, and magically, everyone seems to stop to listen. Most times, even make compliments towards me. Probably because I've also been told I'm a very eloquent speaker, write "like Jane Austen""seem very Victorian in some regards" (as per my AP English teacher), charming in the sense that I seem honest, genuine, innocent, etc...as well as good-looking ("gorgeous" as one other woman put it), but at the same time, I'm usually not using it to gain power.

Of course, I use my knowledge to curry favor when I can - I can be an incredible schmooze when I want to be - but most times, I just seek to be accepted by others. Admiration from others just seems to come naturally to me in real life. At the same time, my imagination and out-of-the-box thinking is, by far, one of my greatest assets - I tend to think of things that no-one has thought of before, and in very clever, complex, planned-out ways. I particularly enjoy coming up with very deep, complex, and fleshed-out story ideas, theories, characterizations, etc. Yet, being very intelligent and bright myself, I can't possibly stand the likes of Slytherins like Crabbe, Goyle, or Pansy Parkinson. This may sound very arrogant of me, but sometimes, I just can't stand talking to someone less intelligent - I'm very much like Hermione in the regards that I sometimes fight the urge to correct people who think they know what they're talking about, but I happen to know more. While I also have what seems like boundless imagination, I am also very logical, to the point of being coldly so - I have been told I am often times honest to the point of being very blunt, discarding others' emotions to see what is the most "logical" solution.

Or, since I identify most with Hermione in the books, think of me like a Hermione with more Ravenclaw and Slytherin tendencies. As an added note, unlike Hermione, I do believe personally in subjects like Divination/seers, as I consider myself slightly psychic - for example, I've had prophetic dreams that've com true before, I believe in ghosts/spirits based on researchers' unexplained data, and I have only ever been attracted to those who would, naturally, have been very compatible with me. With me, I am never heavily attracted to anyone merely based on a shallow basis: with me, it's all context, subtext, intelligence, understanding...I feel that the person in question has to be worthy of me sometimes, or we're on a similar level of intelligence [and I'm just talking about in a romantic way here]. And yes, I will admit, I am a little arrogant in that regards, I suppose, but that's also the way I've been brought up - my parents raised me to believe that out family was "more intelligent" than "a lot of other stupid people" out there. Though I suppose that could go for anyone's family; most people think that they know best as it is.

I also ended up with two different wands, the first (Ravenclaw one) was Dogwood with Unicorn Hair, 10 3/4 inches, Slightly Springy, the second was Elm with Dragon Heartstring, 12 3/4 inches, Hard (close to what Lucius Malfoy's wand is). Personally, I prefer the Elm wand to the Dogwood one as per the description - the Elm wand has beautiful casting.

Thoughts/advice?

That line there seems very Hufflepuff to me, though I look at myself as a Hufflepuff more than anything else so I may just be projecting, lol.

For the most part, you seem to have a lot of Ravenclaw traits, and you seem to favor Ravenclaw to Slytherin. If you remember at one point Harry talks to the Sorting Hat, who explains to him that the only thing that he does is help realize the sorted person's desire.

The Sorting Hat knows what you want even if you don't, but if you do know what you want then the Hat generally just allows you to pick for yourself.

Thank you so much for your input! :D I really appreciate it! Oddly enough, Hufflepuff is the house I tend to share the least traits with. I usually get Ravenclaw or Slytherin in most quizzes.

I think it's interesting that you point out my Ravenclaw preference. However, I've decided now that I would absolutely not want to go with a Dogwood wand at all - I want to be able to cast wandless/non-verbal spells, and Dogwood doesn't allow them.

That's pretty cool, I haven't been on Pottermore in a very long time, although I do remember it being pretty fun. Maybe I'll have to check it out again some time soon. I'm an avid Pen & Paper RPG player, and can say that "Silent Spell" and "Still Spell" have saved my neck numerous times.

However, I do find it odd that the wand that they give to the Ravenclaws does not allow Silent and Still casting... You'd think that'd be an advanced technique that could only be learned by students of Ravenclaw (them generally being the most intelligent of all of the students, lol).

Have fun going back to Pottermore, just don't forget about us here at Subeta ;p

I agree that your own choice and identification matter a lot. Just look at minor characters like Ernie Macmillan (Hufflepuff), Cormac McLaggen (Gryffindor), Marietta Edgecombe (Ravenclaw), etc, who don't typically embody their houses' definitive traits.

Idk about the Pottermore algorithm or the differences in the various online quizzes but your gray-area between Ravenclaw and Slytherin does sound like Hufflepuff to me too. That house gets the short end of the stick a lot of the time imo. It's about you want to perceive and present yourself, so just pick the one you like best regardless. That's what Harry did after all.

You might enjoy the site I'm on then - it's called Enchanted Hogwarts AU RPG. It's a Harry Potter AU pen and paper RPG site, and I actually play Hermione Granger on there. (I've also been told I play/write Hermione "perfectly".)

I agree. I was quite disappointed when I read the description on the Dogwood wand to begin with. I certainly would not have chosen it, given the chance, or maybe even bought a different wand.

Believe me, I don't plan on leaving Subeta anytime soon! ;p

Hmm. I would have to say, if given a choice now, I would have to choose Slytherin. Knowing what I know now about the House, I have to admit I prefer it over Ravenclaw now. (Especially since Pottermore, since the beta ended, seems to be emphasizing the more "quirky" and "eccentric" parts of Ravenclaw house to identify it more with Luna Lovegood - and Luna isn't a character I'm particularly fond of.)

That and, honestly - while I am wise and witty, very imaginative, physically beautiful, and indeed eccentric - I am very much like Hermione, and Hermione, I realize now, would have never been a 'true' Ravenclaw (even if she were Sorted into the house). I also probably would not have accepted Luna Lovegood, nor Marietta Edgecombe. Cho Chang, maybe, but I found all her crying around Harry after Cedric's death to be a little bit pathetic. :/

Cho cried over Cedric's death because they were romantically involved. Idk, but I think if my SO was murdered, I'd probably cry. Lmao :p

Oh, believe me, my 13 year old friend died suddenly and brutally when I was 15. I know all about losing someone you like/love. But I only truly let myself cry in private over it, and only once - ever - with my S.O. in the three years I dated him. Just once.
