I may get an angry mob after me for this suggestion but I think that this is the only way that can hopefully fix all these weird font size issues effectively.

No, I haven't forgotten about things like Melody's Cottage and visiting every day. With it being the holidays, I think a nice compensation would be that in exchange for taking the site down for 24 hours, staff could give everyone the missed day's gifts (minus the few sP that goes along with it) and credit for that missed day's visit.

I just feel as though a full day of no site traffic with users being online may be what's needed to fix everything in a timely fashion.

if the staff could fix the site by taking it down for x amount of hours, i think most users would agree to it.

However, i dont think it works like that. I mean, its possible that they havent pinpointed the root cause yet, so down time doesnt change anything.

Secondly, by attempting to fix this issue, they might unwantedly tweak something else. The site needs to be live for regression testing or whatever the term is.

I don't even think that is anyway feasible or a really rational solution. Turning the site off isn't going to make the programmers eork faster.

I think they need people to be on the site and using it to make sure things are working as they should... otherwise they'll take it down and if something isn't working when it's back on they gotta take it down all over again.

Think of the site as a library with one wing that's under construction. Closing the entire library won't get the work done any faster, so they leave it open. You might smell some sawdust and hear some hammering going on (which is annoying), but you can still use the rest of the library without interfering with the construction.

Now if the roof caves in, then yeah, they're going to need to close it down for a while. But that hasn't quite happened yet.

Taking the site down really isn't going to help with anyone.

Rather, it would take Subeta to decide to focus solely on bugs that would speed up the fixes. That means events would be... rather uneventful (they would be kept minimal, using what features already exist).

Personally, I'm all for this. But, based on the reactions and poor feedback that have consistently been given because of the lack of new features during events, I don't think players are willing to consider this.

We have some really awesome programmers, and I've seen how much they can accomplish when they aren't being torn in a ton of directions or being stuck on a project for an event that has a deadline.

This has brought up before and staff said it wouldn't help. Iirc there was some reasoning (not sure if it was the whole reasoning or not) that if the site is down and unusable they won't actually know if their fixes are working or not.

This probably will solve absolutely nothing. The subeta excuse number 1 for things not being like they should be:

  1. Not enough man power/hours in a day
  2. Not enough money.

Neither of those will change with the site being down for 24 hours. The programmers suddenly won't multiple, they suddenly won't have more time to spend on the site and they are unlikely to suddenly come up with a solution for a problem that has been going on for how long now?

The site would need to be taken down for WEEKS, and in such a competitive environment, do you think Subeta is going to come back strong after? It sucks, but Subeta does not have the attractive power it had in 2010-2011.

The userbase is not growing as much as it used to, while it still has a faithful userbase and reliable income, it's not the golden years anymore, and Subeta shutting down just to fix things could just mean the end of Subeta, especially if these weeks have to stretch over months.

We already lost a chunk of the userbase during the EnderNeko takeover. Some people got upset over the issues, or were just confused and left, to never come back.

For 1 what the heck is the EnderNeko takeover? And as much as we'd hope this would help because how can you know something is working without someone there to test it?

Um no

I don't see how taking down the whole site is going to help. Also, I'm personally not getting any of the font size issues. Some of the fonts are too small, some are too large, but they haven't changed and I've pretty much gotten used to them. The only issues I've been having seem to be fixed (for now)

I know eventually the site will be back to normal, we just have to be patient. I'm sure they are making strides since it's the beginning of the work week. Give it some time, everyone deserves a weekend break from this madness, I'm just glad the site is up and running with this event going on.

You don't remember when Subeta had to change URL several times because the old URL was taken over by someone else, the site had to close down for a couple days/weeks.

Taking down the site doesn't help. We can fix problems just as effectively while the site is up as we can while the site is down.

You can work on coding for a website without taking a website down, though? I mean it's kind of like... remember in the old days when you would write a paper for school, and after it was all written and finished, then you would find a computer and type it up and print it out? Or am I the only one who remembers the days when computers were rare and you got extra credit for typing a paper for school XD

Anyway, what I'm saying is the programmers can do like, rough drafts of their coding. And each of them has their own dev site to play around with as well. So taking the entire site down for a long period of time would basically be pointless, unless they were doing it because something major crashed and burned. They wouldn't do it just to code.
