ok so I have a crock-pot,electric skillet and a microwave..Economy sucks major.I can't get food stamps ive tried and got rejected..(cause I don't lie like the druggies in my town and claim I have children living with me that Iv don't have) Yes my town sucks. There is no help offered unless you lie through your teeth. Local churches won't even help.
My problem is trying to cut down on expenses.Im trying to find easy cheap meals I can make to cut down on food cost.Since I am limited on what I have to cook with im kinda looking for advice..
I end up with a ton of canned veggies.. green beans, whole corn and sweet peas.
I know meat is expensive so I usually buy canned tuna. It's great for making a tuna sandwich.
I try and stay away from name brands..but sometimes I end up picking up a brand that just is awful!Like ocean spray it makes me sick to my stomach.
I do make pasta but recently my doctor told me to lay off the grains and up my veggie and fruit intake..cause it was causing problems to my system.
Update: forgot to say not everyone eats(cause I never know when the other person will be home)so stuff usually goes to waste which sucks. So freezer friendly ideas would be nice.So tired of throwing food away..

Maybe try rice or mashed potatoes? They are filling and cheap additions to veggies and what meats you can get. Mac and cheese in boxes is also rather cheap!
I would also suggest doing some research into your general area within 30 miles or so and see if there are any food banks that do giveaways!
my town does not help anyone.Druggies are very bad in my town and they hit every place that even tries to help people.Druggies rule this town..it's sad but true..cops pick them up and the druggie gives cops a tip and the ops release the druggie..or the druggie gets someone else to take the fall for them.this own is major messed up.
I do cook white rice. It's the only rice I know how to cook..Im also not sure on what cheap easy meals I can make with rice..

Sometimes I just mix things in with the rice, like spam or tuna. You could also make tuna mac and cheese, which is good. Hot dogs are also relatively cheap, too!
hot dogs dry out after the packaging has been opened..
Found out I can make and freeze sweet and sour chicken... I have 2 cans of crushed pineapple at the moment.I think I might even have some rice..Just need to check prices for frozen stir fry veggies or something similar..and of course sweet and sour sauce.I have a can of chunk chicken I might be able to use..

If you store them properly they don't dry out as quickly! Sometimes cans of condensed soup are also really cheap, like less than a dollar! Mostly what my GF and I do is we get what's cheap and we mix it and match it throughout the week!
rice, beans, and potatoes are a great staple for a lot of meals!
you can do so much with plain white rice and its really cheap too! you can add bouillon cubes for flavor or make a stir fry with canned veggies.
http://www.reddit.com/r/EatCheapAndHealthy/ this site has a lot of good cheap recipes, especially for crock pots! And theyre healthy too so theres a bonus.
im thinking about getting some Ziploc bags..that way I can store my lunch meat in them.So tired of things drying out..
ive never even cooked any beans but green beans..Which is one of my issues.sometimes I have things I don't know to cook or use know what to do with..

You can always make veggie soups (they can be done in the crock pot and kept warm that way) and freeze well
Chicken is USUALLY fairly cheap meat and very versatile
any ideas on fruit?I stopped buying produce cause it would just go to waste.Id like fruit ideas I can do when I can and not before they go bad..

for fruit, if things are closer to going bad, yo can always throw them in a blender with some water and plain yogurt to make smoothies, yo can freeze them too.

I just get canned fruit, like pineapples and mixed fruit, and have them on the side. Bananas are also pretty cheap. And when they're about to go bad you can make banana bread. :)
I know you said you have to stay away from the pasta's a bit but this is good sometimes. When my husband and I were struggling a little, we would buy the not name brand mac n cheese in a box. Was like 70 cents a box on sale, then we'd get the tuna when it is on sale and get frozen broccoli bags. That would turn it into a great meal!
If you can manage to spend a little more, buying a big bag of rice and some chunky soup is also great. Get the really gravy soup ones and pour them on the rice, makes them a great meal as well.
I find adding some eggs to ramen makes that a bit more filling as well.

some brands of mixed fruit are awful tasting..Ive had so many yucky cans of mixed fruit and fruit cocktail its horrible..Ive never had a bad can of apricots though..I use canned peaches for cobbler.
I get the best choice white rice. It's cheaper than minute rice but tastes the same to me.

Nice, just toss some chunky soup on that rice and you're good to go haha. My husband requires larger meals then I do and that actually satisfies him lol which says a lot

My favorite rice meal. Generally, I would suggest using a pan and stove top, but since I can't be sure you have either of those, I advise a bit of creative thinking. If your crockpot can cook rice, that's perfect! I'll write out the normal directions, and I don't think you'll have problems being able to fit them to what you have available.
Ingredients: White Rice Vegetable Oil Mixed Veggies Cloves of Garlic Water
Directions: Line a frying pan with vegetable oil, then add rice and about 3 cloves of garlic. The cloves will blacken, don't worry. They will not give off a burnt taste.(If you feel garlic cloves are too expensive, I advise using garlic powder, or minced garlic instead. About 2tbs/clove should do it!) Cook until most of the rice is a solid white color. Do not allow to brown. Remove from heat, toss in a few veggies. (I generally buy mixed frozen veggies. Canned veggies should work fine as long as they are strained. I advise freezing the extra veggies in a freezer bag.) Add the amount of water you would generally use for the amount of rice you used, and allow to simmer(covered) until rice is done. When rice is finished, remove from heat and enjoy! Don't eat the garlic cloves, by the way. :P They just add to the flavor.
Most anything can be frozen... even hotdogs and such. I would even recommend some boxed dinners where all you need to buy is milk and ground beef. They go pretty far, and are pretty yummy! :]
