I wasn't quite sure what subject I should put so hopefully this makes sense.
There's a pet name I am wanting but it's already taken. The user seems pretty inactive but their "last seen" is hidden and there's no message on their profile about it being inactive.
How do I know if a name is up for grabs and how long would the user need to be gone before this is an option?
The user needs to be inactive for a full year before the name becomes available. I believe the message shows up after 10 months, that will give you the exact date the name will be available. If there's not a note on the profile, the name is not up for grabs. There's no exact way to know, unfortunately, until they've been gone long enough, if their last seen is hidden.
Thanks. The last bit of any sort of activity I can find on their account was back in March. I plan to keep an eye on the name.
Does that seem mean/rude of me? Stalking a pet name waiting for the user to become inactive? :(
Not at all c: Good luck catching the name, if the user is indeed inactive~
I think if you really keep the pet for your self it's acceptable to take a name from an inactive user.
I can call to take a pet-name from an inactive user rude, if someone don't held the pet by him/her self and just want to take the name onley for fun or something.
I don't think it's rude at all! I like that subeta purges inactive accounts. So much better than the names rotting for years.
I have had a couple of users on different occasions tell me that they are watching my account to take my pet names when I go inactive. I found that kind of rude... but that's a little different. :P

Once upon a time you could make a ticket for this-- but that's no longer the case (and that option really needs to be taken away from ticket creation now that I think about it), since there's a warning at the top of the user profile that'll show up 2 months before the account is set to go inactive.
As a person who makes a habit of creeping on names, I'd suggest checking these places too: recent posts, comments, most recent items added to their wishlist, and newest achievements (specifically loyalty and a whirl through site events like pandemic, fireside, etc). Sometimes achievements are almost automatic (click on a floater, loyalty, etc) so even if a user doesn't appear too active they might just be more reserved.
Also to add, it's not rude imo to creep on names. It only takes a second or two to log in and preserve your user/pet names for an entire year, and up until a year or two ago (bad concept of time here) accounts were completely purged-- meaning a user lost everything not just their names.
The only thing that's extremely rude, is this:
Ohh you are better at this than me! I had only discovered the profile comment creep. I'll have to try some of those others.
Right? I log in at LEAST once a week even when I'm busy just to make sure they don't get the wrong idea. :P

Thanks for the tips. The last comment they received was March and nothing in the forums since 2012. Nothing new added to their extremely sparse wishlist and they have absolutely no achievements. I would think that they would have some achievements but maybe the zero is because they just haven't been around to switch over to the new system?
It looks like I just need to play the waiting game.
Go to P2P and see if they responded to that comment. Because if not, they might have already been inactive by that time c:
No replies to any comments. The last comment they received looks as if someone was asking about a trade. How long do trades sit before they get sent back to your inventory, 2 weeks?
