So, one of my parakeets( the green one, Kiwi, recently flew away and we haven't had any luck getting him back so far.) ;-; It's been over a week so I'm kind of guessing at this point that we simply may be out of luck. He is fully flighted though, as is my other parakeet.
However, I still have Ghiradelli and we adopted a new cockatiel recently.
Also, if you're seeing the image upside down... Don't know why. It's upright on my iPad but loaded upside down on photobucket.
He's 2 years old, very hand tame and came to us clipped. One of my cousins has a friend who due to illness could no longer take care of her birds so my parents went down to Los Angeles and got him a week or two ago.
They have one other cockatiel which we didn'the adopt that was already 23 or so.
He likes whistling and head scratches. He also loves riding around on people's shoulders.
As for name I've taken to calling him Darcy after Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice, but admittedly I don't actually remember what his previous owner named him though. My parents said it started with a C, but other than that... XD
It shows right-side-up for me, and he is a cutie!!!
Ah, thanks.. for a while it was showing up as upside down on my iPad so wasn't sure if it was right side up for others or not. Isn't he?
He'll butt my head for scratches... XD
He also sheds dander like crazy, but still... little dander butt.
How long have you had him now?
2 weeks, I think?
We haven't had him that long. He actually whines like a dog sometimes because my cousin who owned him before( given to her by the previous owner) had a recently acquired puppy that whined a lot so now he'll whine back at you as a response to your questions. XD
it's adorable.
OMG that sounds like the cutest thing ever. You should take video of it!
Awww, how adorable!! Darcy is an awesome name. It's so cute when birds enjoy riding shoulders and observing the world. I used to have a budgie who would cling to my shirt wherever I went (and also leave little presents xD)

Adorable! I adore birds. I just got my first pet parakeets this year, actually. It's funny you mention your parakeet that flew away, because that's how I got my first one, also a green parakeet. I adopted her after she was found lethargic and weak in someone's driveway. I had to buy her a companion since they thrive best with a friend. I hate buying pets and prefer to adopt, but there were legit no other parakeets in animal shelters in my state, at least as far as I could see.
He'd sit around and ride on someone's shoulders forever if he could.
I was worried about my other parakeet for the same reason but said parakeet seems to be doing fine now.
Yeah, it is. First time I heard him doing that I though we had a dog in the house but we've never had a dog. XD
Your tiel is adorable n.n I used to have a few, I specifically remember a Zonk and a Creature we had (she was a pearl), and they were just great birds.
You don't need to buy birds in pairs. They can live happily on their own, as long as they get a lot of interaction from their human. It's harder to create a bond with a bird (especially larger ones) if you have them with a companion/another bird. As long as you're interacting with them plenty, you'd only need another bird if you wanted to breed them.
I'm sorry to hear about Kiwi!
Darcy looks like a pretty chill bird, though. ;D
I am too. I loved Kiwi but he ran out in the middle of a rainy evening and we couldn't find him. :/ He is... he's so chill. and yet so very whiny.
Seriously.. he doesn't get his way and he'll just sit there doing intermittent dog whines.. until someone pays attention to him... haha
