Ok so I need some advice or opinions or just something here. I'll tell you about what's going on and well see what you all think or have to say.
I work for a gas station. I never had until I got this job at the start of the year. The ONLY thing I truly hated was the up before the ass crack of dawn about getting this job. Otherwise the kindness I see others do for each other, the job itself, the people I work with are all great. Even the varied tasks day to day keep it interesting. That is until we got bought out. My boss came out of the office from a phone meeting and said we had been pieced out and sold. The company that got us I'm not sure I WANT to even tolerate or pretend i like working for. Here's points of what's going on: -It took them 3 weeks to have license to sell beer. From what I hear it normally takes a MAX of a week. To top this off we got our proof of license not from the state or our new parent company but THE VENDOR. That's right the guy who comes to write up orders for shops had to get us our copy. -I can't find ANYTHING about this company online. At least nothing past their office address or a phone number. There's NOTHING about the company, stores or brands they own, who the CEO is... the ONLY thing I found was a negative review left on the yellow pages and it wasn't about the shop but how BADLY they saw the employees treated by the MANAGER -They don't like emails to confirm things they want done. My boss insisted they needed email to make things easy and clear if ever a mass notification needed to come out rather than calling EVERY store. It took until last week to FINALLY get email for managers at all and even then they got mad at those who used it. -If ever they do call and you kindly tell them the manager is off site aka not available due to maybe running errands they get snotty and DEMAND to get put in contact of the manager right then, or if they mistakenly give another store's info to the wrong one they blame the person who answered the phone when it happened. -They took away all earned vacation from the employees who worked there long enough to earn it, everyone has to start over on it again. I was so CLOSE to earning it myself only for it to be taken away... I'm very pissed for those who had their 3+ weeks taken away. I know it takes a LONG time to earn that much so I can't help but feel badly for those who are now at new hire status for vacations. -They don't like to give direct answers or even help the stores they bought get on board with what they want. WE STILL haven't seen a handbook or any papers beyond the applications to work for the company. There's been no signing of knowing anything they want, things they expect, how they operate NOTHING AT ALL SIGNED. -They base hours off of sales, they started this AFTER the super long time of not having beer sales happen. Well most stores would have had to fire 2-3 people to meet the proposed "budget" hours. Yet when stores started doing just exactly that they get calls to NOT fire or lay people off... Well if people get part time hours AFTER they told us we didn't have to worry about keeping our jobs and hours they WILL LEAVE. I know if I get less than 30 a week there's no way I can make my bills AND things I need for me and my cat. -They already are treating us like thieves. They have cameras EVERYWHERE, and are looking into getting MORE in like the strangest places at stores just to watch us better. There's also a paper (which we have yet to sign) that states we WILL allow them to search our cars and personal items when they "see fit" and to not sign this paper when they are ready to have us do so is going to be considered "voluntary job termination". -Let's not forgot already SEVERAL people left as soon as they saw the proposed new papers and counts they "expect".
The other thing that bugs me is IF it's kept to ONE person on shift for no more than 8 hours then HOW are locations with car washes or over 8 pumps going to operate? I know if I'm left alone for 8 hours and expected to do the following: Watch the store, take care of pumps, take care of car wash, take care of shift tasks such as trash or going AWAY from the shop to get back stock items, check in vendors and their stock, and handle ANY problems that arise as well as end of shift paperwork (count ALL tobacco, safe counts, lotto counts ect ect), I'll freaking LOSE MY SHIT. I mean if I have to go outside for stock then it means I'll have no choice but to LOCK the doors on customers and take however long it will to load up the items needed. Annnnd also today my boss quit.
So yeah how would you feel about this?
FINALLY GOT THE 15K WARDROBE DONE!!!!! Next up gutting and selling it.
I would feel that something was off about the new company and, due to the reasons you posted, I'd look for a different job.
That sounds REALLY fucked up, not gonna lie. Sorry that happened to you. If you can I suggest looking for something else ASAP. I mean, stick with your current job for now but keep looking for something else because I don't think anyone would be able to put up with that shit for long.
Thanks for the replies guys ^^
Yeah I feel there IS something off here, just can't place what it is. Like so many other companies have the basic info EASY to find. You can look up say Sears or Burger King and find out who their CEO(s) are, when the company was founded (sometimes with fun history tid bits) where it's "home" location is considered to be. This place you can't even find the year it was started at all :/ Plus I mean by now shouldn't they have at the bare minimum have dropped off even ONE employee guide/hand book for everyone to take a moment to read? Not even sign, but just get to know their goals and ideas on how they run? Like customer service in this place is going DOWN. Before we could say refund you if the self serve wash didn't work. You could be like "hey it ate my $3 nothing worked when I put my cash in" and I could have been like "ok here's $3 back, sign here to show you got it and I'd write the wash was broken on the receipt", all without any manager there. Now I wouldn't be able to give you a PENNY without a manager and them THOROUGHLY checking what happened before they could grant a refund.
I was actually looking FORWARD to getting to be there for a long time. Work up to management and better pay and some benefits. Like when the worst part is someone's attitude due to them being in a "hurry" or the risk of a fire at a gas station was it, that makes for a ok job lol I do plan to do my best to hack it out as long as I can while I feel out other job options. Mostly because we are moving to a new place and that loves $$ XD What sucks though is I used to tell any friend who was jobless or looking for more hours to apply and get a job with the company that had owned us. Now I tell people to run as far away as possible. I mean our assistant is going to try her best to keep things easy and simple and help us to NOT be fired or feel the need to leave any sooner than we need to.

It sounds very shady. Sorry you're having to deal with this (especially before the holidays). I would continue working there but also look for a new job.

That is ALL kinds of messed up. I wouldn't trust them for a second. Definitely try to find a new job ASAP!!
Would it be a thing to check on them with the better business bureau? They sound really sketchy and I feel like something illegal is going on there, especially after reading that they want to search your car??? That's really weird. I've never had a job like that.
Cars are private property. I'm not sure they have the right to search your car, but then again I don't know business laws.
Yes, if they're in the company and search the persons in the company that would make sense, but searching personal belongings, which a car is, is very out of line. I'd definitely call the Better Business Bureau because a lot of the practices of the company seem rather shady.
As for otherwise, try putting applications out there for other jobs. That way you have a way out, and don't have to stay there long term.
