I applied and tested at Manpower (a staffing/jobsearch agency) last week on Monday and by the end of the week, they called and asked if I wanted to accept a position at the University of Michigan Health System (for clerical work). There'd be four days of training and then an assignment (re: actual employment) afterwards for a month. Of course I said yes. If they like me after that month is up, U of M has the opportunity to hire me on as their employee (instead of a Manpower temp). If that happens...I will be set for life. Great pay, benefits, possibly free football tickets...working where there are lots of single doctors around (roflmao). I am freaking out about it right now. Printed off Google maps for the two places the training will be, going to make a dry run tomorrow to make sure the route's right. Bought a new blouse to wear and I'm hoping to get new shoes tomorrow. Business casual...what does that even mean? All they could tell me was 'no jeans'. Anyways...I can't wait to see what happens. I really, really need this to work out. This would mean a new car, a new Mac, maybe my own place...it would mean an actual life instead of spending mornings job-hunting and afternoons depressed and gaming, lol. The only thing I'm worried about (besides whether the job will be a good fit) is the early mornings. I am not a morning person. The job starts at 8am and the drive takes a half hour, so I have to leave here at 7:30am. That means I have to get up at 7:00am at the latest, 6:30am if I want time to shower and make coffee and all that. Which if I get up before noon, coffee isn't even a question. It's a necessity.
tl;dr: Possibly have a new job at an epic university and I'm freaking the heck out.
That's really awesome! I hope you get their perm and have a steady job with the benefits. For the morning issue, well you will get used to it? It's going to be rough for awhile, but then it might end up okay. Try to schedule your sleeping habit before starting to work.
Awesome! Good luck with the sleeping schedule. I am so not a morning person either and I have to wake up at 5 for work...luckily I only work part time because I absolutely hate it! Let us know how it goes!
- Congratulations! I really hope out the job works out for you!
I had an office job for 3 years that started at 8 am. It was tough, but I got used to waking up early. I also got used to going to bed by 9 pm. It took a bit to completely readjust.
Business casual is something that's more "professional" (I hate that term) than jeans and a t-shirt but less "professional" than a suit. Some places don't want you to wear shoes that reveal your toes, so that's something to consider.
Congrats! As for business casual I just google imaged it and it seems like it's just dressy style, think like maybe a nice dinner out. It also seems cardigans and blazers are acceptable if you need to wear something to keep warm, as are slacks and blouses or dresses. I'd say wear flats though because if you have to like drop papers off around the building or anything heels may not be very fun.
Also I'd kill to have to be up at 630 instead of 4 T.T
FINALLY GOT THE 15K WARDROBE DONE!!!!! Next up gutting and selling it.
