Something different than the world as we know it: Air benders have reproduced to the point of comfortable population, each Airbender a direct descendant of Avatar Aang, who had restored the nation from Fire Nation dictatorship. The world is run exclusively by benders, with non benders the slaves. Non benders are not as strong as benders, so it is up to their owners to decide what to do with them. some are nannies, some are cooks, some are hard laborers..of course, you also have slaves that could be romance slaves, totally controlled by bender families, used as pets, toys, etc. it varies greatly. There is no dominant bending race, but each nation doesn't seem to quite get along as well as one would hope. By all means, they mingle in harmony, but relationships between different benders is almost unheard of.

The classes of the new world could be like this: Pures, Mids, and Barrens. Pures are benders with entire bending families, Mids are the product of a bender and a human reproduction (possessing the skill to bend) and anyone else is a Barren.

Generally, Though they possess bending abilities, Mids are not condoned the same treatment as Pures. They are instead encouraged to hide their bending abilities, which most don't mind since they've never had proper training anyway.

So where is The Avatar? Most believe the cycle was broken, since it has been 250 years since The previous avatar had died. All that is known about the situation is that the Avatar was supposed to be reborn into the Fire Nation...but was never found. Benders have long since forgotten, but Barrens and Mids have hope, as Avatar Aang was found 100 years after his death.

I think it would be a cool storyline to have the avatar been reborn, died, then reborn again. Our characters could stumble across a clue or a signal that the Avatar is alive-- in fact, the Avatar(s) have been held captive, killed, born again, killed, and repeated by a mystery group of some sort. (denying the chance of growing older and mastering all four elements). The challenge is.. What could an Avatar do? What problems would that solve? Benders rule the Earth, so an Avatar wouldn't benefit them in any way. it would be the non benders and the Mids who still believe in the Avatar's power, who truly believe that the strongest being on Earth is still The Avatar itself.
