I think it's the hair. It's a lot poofier than it use to be, which I think makes him look wider and younger.

It's not bad though, just different.

His face was a lot leaner and narrower in his previous incarnation - I'm still getting used to that change, I kind of miss his old skinny look.

Love the hair, though, and his features look proportional, so thumbs up from me!

I don't think he's gotten 'fatter'? I think the anatomy and style of his original art was just a lot different and it's hard to compare them.

Everyone interprets art differently; even the artists revamping them (which more often than not seems to not be the same artist, and therefore the perspective on the character is different).

I personally love the heck out of his new shading. Wow such details in that hair C:

I think it's his chin ? It's no longer as long and skinny, so they actually fit his chubby cheeks (which were there in the old version !). His hair looks like it is facing us instead of at the 3/4th view like his face, though that could be an odd floffiness thing... Which I have to say, his hair is floofy. I am sad they kept the strangeness of his glasses. They've never made sense to me being that low and lacking the temples.

I am 100% happy he kept his "I am so gosh damned over everything" facial expression.

However, I hope this leads to an actual update. I am over these partial updates and there's only been two (Alexander the Ontra has one on the Subetapedia page/banner).

I always thought of Ian being older (at least in his 30's) and more angular, but this depiction of him seems to go in the opposite direction. I drew a picture of him a long, long time ago when Subeta galleries still existed... but it semi-sucked, so I kind of hope nobody has it. xD

Or he's staying too late in the lab and eating nothing but cheesy poofs for dinner. xD

You know, I always thought he was older too, and you're right, this new version definitely seems younger to me too. Huh. I'd rather he look a bit older myself, but oh well.

Honestly, if I didn't know the npc was a guy, I would have thought the revamped version was a girl. Rounded nose, omg!crazy volume hair, chubby cheeks, what looks like a rounder face.... the art is lovely. I just prefer old version Ian better. xD

He's cute but when are we getting the next step in the plot?
