With the recent forum "update," the gifs were removed. People have been viewing them as obnoxious, flashy and a myriad of other things but I have to admit, I miss mine.

Therefore, I'm proposing a compromise - one gif in the forumtext and/or signature.

I know it can be programmed that you can only have one image in the signature so a cap isn't too difficult to do. Just something to consider and possibly a happy medium for everyone.

Sorry, didn't see the part that you talked about the signature. I don't see why we can't have a gif in the forum text. I'm pretty happy with having just one gif, I think anymore than that and people will be annoyed. If people really do dislike them though, there are ways to "block" them or even pause them, if they're slowing down page loading or something. Right now I have an add-on that pauses them if they aren't white listed.

Exactly, there are gif pausing plugins and addons, not to mention you can keep images from loading in you browser if you really must.

Since people can put gifs in their signature (and Keith said that was okay) I really don't see why they can't be allowed in the forumtext. You can only have one image in your signature, adding more will cause an error message. You can only have one image in your forumtext because there's literally no way to add more. I don't see how one possible gif in the forumtext would hurt anyone. Worst that could happen is someone having a gif in their forumtext and signature, which I don't think is a bad thing. At all. Sure, some gifs can be annoying, but most people just block them. I don't see how this would be different than before the forumtext re-haul.

That was a very long-winded reply to say that I support this. I had a gif in my signature but it would have looked better next to my forum text, since it being in my signature stretched my post a little.

I'm glad they got rid of gifs in forumtext. they're distracting, and I dislike most of them. Gifs in signatures is enough of a compromise imo.

^ this.

One gif here + one gif there = two gifs which is two gifs too many. They're distracting, uncomfortable (nothing like surprise make out scenes to ruin your morning!), flashy, and cause lag. I don't even support having one gif because adblock doesn't help me on my phone, so unless gifs/images are terminated from signatures, no no no.

I would be ok with the choice to have one gif as forumset OR signature, but I'd rather it stays as one single gif per person.

When the new forumset / forum system was implemented, I thought it would mean the end of the "oversized" forumtext warnings. Except it isn't, the broken calculator is still supposed to add the forumset image PLUS the signature and it of course doesn't work.

I know it'd be upsetting but I'm so, so annoyed by this that I'd even take the option to use gifs on forumtext and ban all images in signatures just so the broken calculator goes away forever. Enough with the random warnings -_-

I'm a lot more content with the forums now that gifs for the most part have been removed. The forums move faster and its a lot less distracting
