I've been a nurse for 2 years now and let me tell you, it wasn't what I was expecting when I was still studying. I had to choose between art and nursing when I was in college and I thought, hey, I'll go with nursing cause I wanna help and assist people... and now after 4 years of studying and training and 2 years working I feel worn out and unfulfilled. I feel like I made a grave mistake. People/patients treat me like a nanny, they are so demanding and blame me for things I wasn't responsible for (mistake by doctors, laboratory, cashier, accounting, account officers etc.) and I am just so tired.

My mom is giving me another way out and asked if I want to study again to purse art (Animation in particular) this time and I thought why not. The problem is, I don't know where to start. I don't know any animators to ask about it. I'm hoping to find a school/institute that offers weekend/night classes (so I don't have to drop my work, I don't wanna burden my mom) and no luck so far. I simply do not know what to do.

Any advice of any sort and encouragement would be a great help.

I think I know a little bit how you feel. I dropped out of school in my second year in high school because I thought I wanted to do something else. My main class was programming. I then worked for half a year and then got into a course for programming and graphic designs and then I regret dropping out of school so bad. I just found a school that would take me back and next monday I'll start even through I nearly had no hopes to get back in school because of my age.

I for myself just looked through google searching for Informatics and programming schools. Asked some people I know. You will find something, there are some schools offering night classes for animation where I live and here it is not like there are many jobs for this. I also called some schools where they told me about other schools and night classes and so on. Maybe you could judt call a school near to you which offers animation classes and ask them if they know about where you could attend night classes. They mostly know some other schools offering the same classes since people transfer schools and sometimes they need to speak with the teachers they had before in the other school.

Btw, I loooove your background! May I ask where you got it from? I looked for this one for forever. T_T

Just some advice..if art is truly what makes you happy, you have to ask yourself if you want to do it as a career. You're undoubtedly going to work in tough situations, sometimes that ruins it for people, you stop seeing it as enjoyable since it's so inextricably linked to your work stressors. You could work on your own as a freelancer, but you'll always have to work with a client and you'll get your fair share of people who are jerks.

Basically, the bad stuff about your job is the same bad stuff for every other job. It won't change with animation, it'll just be different bad stuff.

My advice to you would be to find a place to do some volunteer interning where they do animation. You can see first hand if that will destroy what you like about it, or if you think it's more tolerable than nursing.

And I may be wrong, but I don't think animation careers are something you can do everywhere, unlike nursing. You might have to uproot your life just to get a job in that field. You definitely need to look into that aspect before you make any changes.

That's good news then. I'm glad you found a school. :) It's pretty hard to look for night school here cause it's like a tradition (fixed years and sched) to finish school/college in order so it's pretty unusual to study courses a night. I found one but I have to drop my work to study.. which is not an option for me. I still have a lot of time though. Hopefully it'll clear my mind a little. Thanks for sharing! c:

That's what I keep asking myself actually. Cause I really really do not want to hate drawing. It's all I have. The difference is that, at least I'm stressed with doing what I like. But yeah.. I do think about that a lot.

That's true too. We don't have big companies here that hires animators, which means I have to move to another country, which I'll be doing as a nurse anyway but yeah. I still have a lot to consider. Thank you very much for the advice! c:
