Bit of a random thread, I know. But who wants to get some bad habits off their chests? I'll even go first ;)

"Oh wow, that's disgusting.. How long has that been in the fridge ...??" proceeds to eat anyway, because it's 3:00 a.m., and I'm too lazy to make anything else

Drinking pop even though it makes me sick because of my IBS and GERD and it definitely complicates my sleep apnea. Just having so much trouble giving it up.

Scratching/picking my skin, especially my face... Usually I do it when I'm stressed. x__x

And always thinking, "I'll shower later" and suddenly realizing it's midnight. XD

I used to quit everything I started without even trying (like... a few schools, and notebooks, and all things that seemed hard to do), but I've grown out of it. :) It's something that still haunts me, though, because it was my biggest bad habit for a very long time.

I do the same thing with pop. Consciously decide to drink it and then hate myself an hour later for the bloated feeling.

My bad habit lately has to be eating things I know will make me feel sick and doing it anyways and then cursing myself for it. Haha. The cycle is vicious.

I used to bite my nails into stubs, but I started getting acrylics done on them years ago and once I had them off the habit did not return. Instead now I bite my lower lip raw when I'm anxious/nervous about anything.

I have a habit lately with food, I've been eating out a lot, mostly because of laziness and partly because of stress.

I've been doing that for years. I have dry skin and it gets bumpy and I pick at the bumps and then sometimes I pick too much and they bleed and scab over so then they don't heal forever. I hope that's not TMI. I've rarely picked on my face though, I guess cause I don't get bumps there, thank goodness. I can't believe I'm admitting this, but I was impressed that you admitted it, so I wanted you to know that you're not alone.

Also, it's not JUST because my skin is dry, it's also a nervous habit for me as well. I have insomnia and sometimes when I go to bed I start picking on my thighs as I'm lying there and I don't even realize that I'm doing it, until I suddenly focus and say to myself: oops there I go again. I've had things that have finally healed after months of being picked on and I'll keep my hands off them for weeks and suddenly I'm at it again.

I also have a problem with the "I'll shower later" thing, and I'm a hermit who rarely leaves my apt, and I don't have oily skin so I can slide too much with personal hygiene.

So, I also eat too many sweets and unhealthy foods, and I sit for hours online and I don't have a laptop so I'm sitting on a desk chair that is moderately comfortable and sometimes I'll sit here for hours even when I need to rest. I think that's enough for now, lol!! And now I'm going to lie down and rest! :)

Drinking things with caffeine, even though I know it'll make me have restless legs at night and therefore make me unable to sleep. I'm getting a lot better with this though. Haven't had caffeine in...two days I think? Except for a sip of Diet Coke from my mom's cup the other day because I was dying of thirst, lol.

Bottled water. I know I should use my reusable cup more, but honestly I'm too damn lazy and grabbing a bottle is so much easier.

Being too lazy to cook something healthy and instead opting to eat a frozen dinner or just go out to eat fast food.

Nail biting, forgetting to eat. Procrastinating is a big one for me. I'd much rather play video games than think about homework, haha.

I also buy sketchbooks when I don't really need them. Oops.

That's not TMI. :) It's comforting to know other people do it too. I suppose no one talks about it much because many think it's gross, and every skincare guide ever says not to pick your skin... I also do it without realizing I'm doing it, especially when I'm focused on thinking stressful things! And telling myself to stop helps for a while, but then I unconsciously continue picking. The stupidest thing is, my skin always looks worse after picking, not better. :D

And yeah, sweets. I could eat sweets all day long. I'm kind of thankful that I can't afford sweets in my current life situation...

Thanks for responding to that, and especially letting me know that it's not TMI. I guess most ppl DO think it's gross. I come from a family where nothing is gross, yet we all know how to behave in polite society. I'm sorry that your unconscious picking is on your face. That must be hard to deal with. I barely go out anyway, but all mine is hidden.

Yeah, buying fattening food is one of the few things I DO spend money on. My rent is subsidized, my income from disability is very low, but I have no bills for cell phone, TV service or a car. I'm not paying for college (did that years ago) so I CAN (unfortunately) pay for unhealthy food, and food has become my "only" friend, which I guess is another bad habit.

All my life I controlled my eating and stayed relatively thin, but after age 50 a lot of stuff goes south for a woman, and my entire life went south, not just the hormonal menopausal stuff. Oh well. I hope this is not too off topic. I have a very hard time with that concept of staying on topic since when ppl communicate they naturally flow from one subject to another. Maybe if I had been born in the age of computers and brief tweets I could get the hang of it, but that's not my world.

thanks for making this topic, I can also relate to being too tired or lazy to make something good to eat, and if you ate something that looked disgusting but it didn't make you sick it was probably fine. I think people are WAY too obsessed with fear of food poisoning and they throw away a LOT of perfectly good food. I was brought up with a HUGE thing about not wasting. I was also taught "when in doubt throw it out" but the way it LOOKS won't make me doubt it (unless I see mold) it's the smell of potentially bad food that I rely on, and if it smells bad (not bad as in "smelly cheese," but rotting bad) I know it's a bad idea to eat it. Also if I bite into it and taste something that's obviously not OK, then out it goes.

I thought it'd be kind of therapeutic, ya know? It's nice to just get it out there with people you know won't judge you, even if it's just strangers on the internet.

I have a tendency to ruminate over EVERYTHING. Decisions can be agonizing for me to make and once I get caught on a topic I can't get off it for hours. Oh that person looked at me funny? Oh no! I must now think of every reason why that person must hate me!

Over-thinking/holding a grudge/constant fixation on everything; be it from past events, situations that could have been handled differently, something someone said. Kind of a result of that, since it's a bad nervous habit I have always had, is that i've been chewing/ripping my lip raw and picking small wounds on my arms from work and making them worst and unable to heal properly.

I'm really lazy when it comes to doing the dishes. We don't have a dishwasher in our apartment, so everything has to get washed by hand; and I don't tend to "get around to it" until every dish and utensil in the apartment has been used. Also, if I use a fork for something, after I'm done with it I'll rinse it off and set it next to the sink to use again later. I'll use the same mug and spoon for my tea over and over and over again... That kinda thing.

While I'm thinking about it, I also have a love/hate relationship with cooking food, too. I have to be in the right "mood" to cook - but when I am, I love it. If I'm not, I'll just say "fuck it" and eat the ingredients raw rather than make it into whatever meal it was supposed to be (I'm a vegetarian, so by this I mean raw vegetables). Or, if I cooked something and set aside leftovers, I usually can't be bothered to reheat them and will just eat them cold. Or I'll open a can of beans or alphaghetti and just eat 'em right out of the can rather than take the time to heat 'em up (though, granted, there are some foods I just prefer eating cold; I'm told I get that from my grandfather).

When my fiance isn't home, I totally pee with the bathroom door open. Like, every time.

I also chew on the insides of my cheeks, and bite off the dry skin on my lips. I also pick at my skin, as others have mentioned - but I also pick at other people, too. But only people I'm SUPER close with, who have given me permission to "groom" them.

I'm also pretty... unfiltered. I know I can come off as a little abrasive, or "too honest" at times. I try to think before I speak, but it usually comes out before I get a chance to. I'm also suffer from hearing loss, so I tend to talk at a louder volume, too. Which means not only am I unfiltered, but I can also be unintentionally quite vocal about it. D=

Oh gods I'm gonna stop there 'cause I'm starting to sound like an awful, disgusting person. XD
