It's probably because of Keelhauliday - lots of people did his quests for the special prizes, driving the price of the items in his pool up.

that's very logical and probably the most likely issue at hand. However, I like to think he's just an ornery alcoholic. :)

Maybe to him all the prices on items look the same... xD Or he's hoping we won't notice and just buy them for him anyway.
