Okay, so one of the people I work with nominated me for employee of the month, for always being willing to help other people. I don't expect or want to win (the only reason I help other people out is because I want a nice peaceful environment to work in, we're stressed enough as it is without friction between people & people being afraid to ask for help when they need it), but I just really feel good knowing that I'm appreciated, and it was nice of her to acknowledge me.

So I got home and told my housemate (who is one of the people at work who decides who gets to be employee of the month) what a good day I had, ending with "I got nominated for employee of the month for basically being good." Rather than sounding pleased, or happy, or anything even remotely positive, she just said, "You're not going to get it."

Like wow. I don't often win things, I don't often have my hard work acknowledged, and I don't often have a good day at work... so on the one occasion that I actually feel good about myself, thank you so very much for taking a crap all over my positive attitude.

So anyway, the question is, what are you good at? I feel like I need to talk about the things I'm good at or I'll just lie awake all night thinking, "Well, I suck at everything."

I'm good at my job. I'm good at writing. I'm good at listening. I excel at making people feel good about themselves.

Just ignore your housemate, letting in those negative thoughts will only make you more depressed and self-conscious, when you know that you do a great job and that you're a hard-working employee. Me personally, I am an okay drawer, I make people laugh, I am social, and I love listening to music.

Your housemate is not a nice person. You're clearly much more mature than she is.

I'm good at.....spelling. Everything else is a work in progress.

Mm, thanks guys. To be honest I think she just wants to make sure I'm aware that she has (some of) the power to choose who gets it, you know? And because shouting "I HAVE MORE POWER AT WORK THAN YOU DO" would make her sound obnoxious and kinda stupid, she resorts to being a butthole instead, completely by accident. We've been friends for years, I can read her like a book. xD

Even if she didn't mean to be an ass about it and did mean it as a "I have the authority" way, it did kind of come off as rude and I can see how your feelings were hurt. I'm sorry about that.

I'd say the only thing I know I'm good at is beating Spyro the Dragon 120% fairly fast. My personal PB was about 2 hours and 30 minutes.

lol I guess we know who's not getting that nomination. Sometimes being good is all that's important, because it inspires everyone around you (if they're at that level of security) to work harder and thimk more selflessly, and coming in contact with that sort of person makes all the difference between a good day and bad day at work.

I'm personally good at staying out of drama but I'm not great at preventing it either. Tbh I'm terrified of talking to people on matters I think should be kept personal.

Does that mean they've already decided, or is she being an absolute bastard and saying that just for the sake of it? Even if it's the former, she could be nicer about it... Perhaps she feels threatened in her position due to how well you're doing at work.

I'm good at adapting, I suppose. And not letting things get to me, staying laid-back. Looking at things analytically and remaining objective (or.. well, at least recognising my subjectivity).

Hmm... I'm good at running in the woods, recommending music to people, and controlling my feelings.

The world is full of people who try to ruin things for others with their negativity; at times like those I try to remember that everything they say and do says more about who they are as a person than about who you are. :)

Well first off, congratulations on being nominated! (: I'm actually employee of the month at my job currently, at least for a couple more days until September's is announced.

I guess I'm good at learning quickly. I may not be the best at everything, but I will learn new skills very quickly to try to improve what I'm not so good at.

Congratulations on being nominated for employee of the month, if you win or you dont you were still recognised as being good at what you do and thats brilliant and shows that the people you work with appreciate you

sadly your flatmate sounds jealous and a little insecure to be so harsh. I doubt you would have done that to her because you wouldnt want someone else to feel bad ... so you can see already that she is the one with the problem

Im good at art and caring for people and they are the things that are important to me so Im terrible at some other things if course but thats ok too no one is perfect and if they were I bet they would be really boring lol
