We're not supposed to reply to posts that are over 3 months old. I'd like to suggest that if there are posts over 3 months old on the FRONT page of a forum - that they be locked.

I had just assumed that they would be. Ran across one today and commented without realizing it was over the 3 month mark and got scolded. :-

I kind of like this idea, if they get an automatic lock. And on the front page only.

Omg. I had this idea before but I thought no one would like it. I'm so glad someone else thinks this should be done. So I fully support this...

But what's wrong with 3 month old topics that aren't on the first page? People still dig them up. I always thought that when someone notices a topic that just became necro-able that it should be locked immediately to prevent people from accidentally posting on it.

Subeta is the first and only site I've been on that has this rule, to be honest, so I've done my fair share of accidental necro-ing.

I've gotten scolded before as well. Someone posted in it, I didn't bother to look at the date, I posted in it after...

It actually made me really embarrassed when it happened.

I like that older boards stay around for reference purposes (I reflect back a lot for older challengers, and staff quotes of course), but I've always hated trying to link to old boards because you always have yo disclaimer to omfg don't post it's old danger danger Will Robinson!!

If there was a way for a board to automatically be locked when it hasn't been posted on in three months that would be great and I'd love to see it happen! Or even become 'flagged' for the forum's MM(s) could easily check to see what's become flagged for easy locking? Might not be so bad since the forums were recently redone and tons of old boards are now gone.

Yes, please! Why this isn't a thing already I'll never know. I'm always terrified of posting on an over 3 month old thread.

I've never understood why old topics can't be auto-locked. I understand mods not wanting to do it manually, that would be a lot of extra work, especially in some forums.

I think that's a great idea. It would certainly help.

This so much. I'm not a fan of the rule itself, because there are some threads where it just doesn't make sense to start another thread to continue the conversation (debates, movies/tv shows, etc.), but I guess that's another story. xD

I feel like auto locking should be a thing on most forums except for the very slow ones perhaps. I seriously forget to check the dates on the forums all the time.

Plus it sucks to have to tell people to not post somewhere because they might forget to check the date or they don't know about the necro rule. Or you might forget to tell someone and they don't know about it and then you both end up: oh shit. I want to be able to link people to topics without having to be scared to have the person necro the topic.

Supporting this. I get that sometimes accidents happen and not everyone checks the date of the last post, but the amount of people who have no idea that not posting on topics older than 3 months is a rule is amazing.

Auto-lock would seriously be useful.

Kind of piggybacking on this, but I think there should be a link to the forum-specific rules on the top of the main forums page, for easier access. Maybe then more people would be aware of the three-month rule.

But if that's not possible (surely it would be, though??), then yeah, I support an auto-lock for old threads.
