so... I know I have to finish a quest for Itallo to make a galactic pet but when I go to the coda caves I don't see the link anywhere (I already dug out a gem)

I always find it by typing "Itallo Subeta" into Google. The first result for me is his quest. You can use that URL to bypass the post-digging wait and the weird linkage that mentions that way.
