Has anyone had any experience with online dating using OKcupid?

I've been on it for awhile and I've met up with one person and it went horribly. How do you get comfortable enough to meet someone in person?

I've met my boyfriend through an online dating site (: named Twiig. We weren't far from each other, but I was kinda shy, so he took step's and came to met me at my job when he knew my shift was over HAHA. I than started to like him a bit more, since i'v saw him, he saw me, we then had a date that was AWESOME, and we've been together for ALMOST 2 years (November 20th :) )

Skype video chats and traditional phone calls are the best way to get to know someone on the internet before meeting in person. I met my now husband online and we've been happily married for 2 years now.

I met someone on OKC when I literally just joined to make friends locally and it was really weird, we live in a small area and he figured out exactly where I lived based on our conversations. He showed up on my doorstep one day unexpectedly and came in and watched Weeds with me, it was horrible and scary and uncomfortable and I am married so my husband was pissed and it was just awful. I deactivated my account lol

I found the best way for me was constant Skype calls and interaction any way you can when you're not busy. I met my boyfriend on Twitter and despite the awkwardness of not wanting to go through with it because of the distance, we stuck with it as best as we could. After a while, I moved 500+ miles away from home just to be with him. I now live with him and we've been together over a year.

I've had an OkCupid for a few years. My experiences haven't been inherently bad. I mainly used it back in college, so 90% of the users in the area were also college kids (the entire town is a college town).

It honestly depends on your preferences when it comes to being comfortable. Don't force yourself into something you're not ready to try. Don't hold back, either, because you might miss a good chance. It's all a balancing game. Use your intuition.

I've had a mix between getting to talk to people for at least a month before meeting them to one-night-standing someone I just met. The experience is better when you talk to someone and get comfortable with their personality first. Unless you want in bed with someone. In that case, be careful, too.

Good luck to you. Don't get discouraged, as it's easy to do.

I met my husband on a dating site. His friends created an account for him, and a friend of mine pushed me into getting an account too, so we were both quite hesitant about it at first. I added him on facebook and we started talking a lot there before I finally asked him to meet me for a drink. Neither of us expected much of that but yeah, like I said, he's my husband now :P

Just try talking a lot before you meet in person, then at least you'll know if you have anything at all in common, or if they can make you laugh or not.

I was on OKC for a while because they have so many awesome gender and sexuality options (which I appreciate as an androgynous asexual). I never ended up finding someone I really connected with though. I just don't think online dating is for me. But I still do tell people about OKC as being a great place for queer people. Especially as there's an option that keeps straight people from seeing your profile.

Actually my now husband and best friend met on OK Cupid! We lived in the same area but we didn't meet immediately. We talked and got to know each other beforehand. We were a lot alike and just kind of hit it off on the internet with chatting and stuff. Then we picked a place to meet up in public and it was a no pressure situation. We more made it into a 'friend' with potential situation. We weren't really intending on dating each other. Maybe GOING on a date but no expectations on actually being together.

Later on after a few dates we realized we really, really liked each other. We kept dating and became very serious. Two and a half years later and a baby we are VERY happily married.

I say just make sure you don't have any huge expectations. Make it clear what you want from the experience and if you don't feel comfortable make sure you make it very clear. I say talking to the person a little before you meet is really important too.

Why do you have a picture of my husband in your signature? Where did you get that photo? WERE YOU IN MY HOUSE?!
