Sort of like the outline that appears around the items you have on your wishlist, how about a different coloured outline if you already have that item?

That way, if a person has a list of picture items they're looking to buy, you'd be able to see immediately which items you have.

This sounds like something which could cause lag. It would mean that every time you load a page with items on it, the site has to check your account to see if you own them or not.

The wishlist pretty much has this covered anyway. If you look at someone else's WL, it tells you if you have the item they want.

that's how the 'you already have this!' on your wishlist works. It has to run a scan through your entire account each time you're on the page. Can you imagine that on almost every page you end up on?

it isn't a bad idea by any means! a lot of people are acting like it's not a good idea, but that's not true in my opinion. it is a good idea, one that has been suggested many times and unfortunately just isn't doable right now. maybe someday the site will have advanced/big/fast (i don't really know how this works) enough servers to support something like this though!

Nobody is acting like it's a bad idea in concept. In practice, it IS a bad idea because the site would blow up.
