I know that this isn't really a huge deal or anything, but it just seems kind of off to me. Maleria is supposed to be this powerful, terrifying goddess of evil, but when you really read her quests, it looks as if she is kind and has manners. Let me explain why I think this... At the begging of her quests you read this intimidating dialogue of her demeaning, challenging, and threatening you which is excellent for her character.:
"MORTAL! You dare enter my home? By coming here, you have agreed to fulfill this quest I have for you. If you fail, the outcome will not be pretty, even if such an outcome does not come on swift wings. Eventually, my dear, you will pay for your mistakes. If you dare, you may venture into my shop, but rest assured, you will pay for those items in Questpoints!"
...but once you accept one of her quests, this message shows up: "I would greatly appreciate it if you brought me these items as quickly as possible!"
I get that the phrase is like the default for all the quests, but it just seems too nice for her. The sentence literally fits with practically every other quest giver but her (well maybe with the exception of Saggi since he's a narcissist).

Someone bought this up once before. It is pretty strange! xD
It works fine for some NPCs. I can see the Wizard and Alexander talking like this, and maybe one or two others. Maleria? Hell no! Way too polite for someone who was threatening you only moments ago. O.o
Saggi doesn't seem like the type of person to be terribly polite either. More demanding. Too well spoken for drunkard Carl, or excitable, childish Cinthia.
It'd be great if they could all have their own words for sending you off to get the items for them. Something more suited to their personalities.
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one thinking this, and good point on Carl and Cinthia. I didn't even consider them. In my opinion Maleria would say something along the lines of "You had be better move quickly. Your life depends on it." and Saggi would be like "Ugh! Hurry up! You're wasting my precious time." Haha I dunno. Just a thought.
(Also, I know it's a little off topic, but since we're talking about quest quirks, you wouldn't happen to know why Alexandar only has whiskers on one side of his face would you?)

That sort of thing definitely suits them more!
Huh. I never noticed that about Alexander before actually. O.o Probably the artist just forgot to add them on both sides.
It works this way because of the way the quests are set up (where every quest giver has the same text when you bring back the items). When I went and added new front page text to Quentin and Cithinia, I realized the text for bringing back items / prizes are generic. I want to rework it sometime soon (I'm still familiarizing myself with the code!) to make it more personal for each quest, like Maleria threatening your life or Pete making a food pun. :D
Changing the default dialogue to something more fitting would definitely immerse one into subeta lore more, which fits in with some other suggestion about building up subeta lore. Changing Maleria's quest dialogue to be meaner adds to the depth of her character.
And since we're talking about quest quirks, I think Cinthia's asking pool should be edited. While it's hilarious that she asks for skulls and dead people and doom and death, that's just.... Not right? Has anyone else noticed that she gets to asking for the strangest things?
And I think Pete's asking pool should be edited too. It's not that big of a deal but I can't understand why an excellent, famous chef like Pete would be asking for zombie food like pus and vomit and such?
I always wondered if it was on purpose. I enjoy creating characters myself and tend to give them odd characteristics like that, but like you said, it could just be that the artist forgot. XD
and yeah, I'd love to see the dialogue thing happen especially since that recently gave some of the quest givers more in depth "welcome speeches". That way everything would match more I guess.

Can make great food out of anything ;) The artists have nothign to do with out the page is laid out. :) Like I mentioned above, it's really a matter of messing with the code so I (or another programmer) can have more personal text for each quest giver. :)
Well, Pete does say he wants ALL the food. Doesn't seem like he's terribly fussy! ^-^
Maybe it is a quirk? Ahhh now I want to know if it's deliberate (and why) or just a mistake!
Edit:
I don't think she was suggesting the artists have anything to do with the code. We got a little off-topic talking about Alexander's missing whiskers on one side, and wondering if that was a mistake, or a quirk of the character. ^^
Ooooh, haha. Wow, totally read that wrong. ALEXANDER IS JUST SPECIAL OKAY.
Haha! Okay. Quirk then. ^-^ MYSTERY SOLVED! >w<
I do hope something can be figured out for more unique NPC text. That'd be wonderful. :)
Woah! It must've taken a while for my response to load. I didn't even see your comment before or after mine or the one from
Now that I've read it though...It's good to hear that it has been looked into, and I love the idea for a food pun for Pete. XD Also, I actually like that he has the whisker quirk. It implies that there's an interesting story behind how he got it which in my opinion gives him more character. I love those kinds of details in the NPCs. They're one of my favorite parts of the site honestly. I guess this is because I've always loved getting to know the characters in anything I've played/read/watched. They all have personalities and are unique just like real people. I may sound like a total nerd saying that, but the creation of fictional life and getting acquainted with it has always fascinated me. (though I wish Subetapedia would be updated a bit...maybe some new entries? One could dream.)
Now we know their secret. ;)

I support these ideas.
The person who originally noticed Maleria being weirdly sweet was me.
Alexander probably never had a full set of whiskers, but since Library quests weren't interesting without quest points, we probably all lost track of him and forgot. Bob the Fishing Ontra, he has whiskers on both sides.
Right now there's a famous lawsuit just settled in the local regional courts about vietnamese fish sauce and trademark infringement with those. This matters, because it's the "new gourmet thing" and normally a 2USD-worth bottle can now sell for nearly 8. But this stuff? In RL it smells like LIQUID DEATH. (I really can't capslock that hard enough) You really don't wanna know if it was in that luscious pho you just ate. So yeah, Pete would totally ask for Zombie foods. And really, would Drunk Carl even notice?
Cinthia started asking for creepy stuff when Quentin's quest finally got so popular that he was giving out Graveyard stuff as a Game Prize at a rate waaay higher than he himself could remove it from the site. To me, this is something that the newly refurbished gothly Melman, who has met Liam and Alexa Brocade on his wild sabbatical and taken them both on as lovers, to ask for and not Cinthia. ...but you know, the Old Wizard does have a rather intense hose and panty fetish.
Have you seen the new Subetapedia banner? NO whiskers. O.O xD
I've never minded Maleria's "manners". Just because someone is dark/evil doesn't mean they have to be a mannerless oaf. A lot of my favorite villains from movies and literature have had very good manners, and personally I like it that way. It makes someone seem more educated/intelligent. shrug

"To me, this is something that the newly refurbished gothly Melman, who has met Liam and Alexa Brocade on his wild sabbatical and taken them both on as lovers, to ask for and not Cinthia." Lol WHAT!?! XD Please explain this.
Now my posting is working... >_> but yeah it is strange that he has non in the banner, all on his entry, and only half a face of whiskers on his quests. So...HOW special is Alexander exactly?
I see where you're coming from. I've "met" villains like that as well. They'll cut off a man's head without caring and then bow gentlemanly to the corpse afterwards. To me though, I really don't think Maleria is the kind to care what you think of her. The threats and watching you shake in fear are far more entertaining to her than trying to come across as sophisticated, but meh. I guess it's all in how you view it.
[tot=Abaven] [egg=Abaven] [tp=Abaven]
Yeah I guess it is all in how someone looks at it.
Debating it with my sister also and she doesn't think Maleria should have manners either. But to each their own, I'd just hate to see her become a cardboard cutout of evil=barbaric (for lack of a better term)
[tot=Zelly]
This may be an odd comparison, but I kind of think of Maleria as a Darth-Vader-kinda-villian. Powerful, terrifying, kick A, nobody dares defy them, and while neither if them are brainless oafs, they aren't kind either and view everyone as far beneath them. It's like they're awesome and in charge, and they know it.
[tot=Abaven] [egg=Abaven] [tp=Abaven]
Yeah I can totally see that, but (and here's probably where we'll disagree again) I wouldn't have been surprised to hear Vader say lines such as "I would greatly appreciate it if you brought me these items as quickly as possible!" however I doubt his voice would've held the same sincerity as say Luke if he'd said them.
[tot=Zelly]
my dear sweet Kitty, love is a many-splendored thing that defies explanation. But I will try. Someone who has dotcom-type money but who has spent most of his life without trying to spend it can be sometimes socially inept and unable to truly express their deepest desires. In Melman's case with his early retirement, he (may have) found out in Thailand that he really likes to be worshipped by both sexes, Only someones like and who are already society's outcasts, can see his need for love. And well, since men in love can do crazy things, he is so delighted by this new thing, he goes Goth along with them.
He doesn't know how to fully show his joy in them and what they are and do, to give that enormous lucky love back. But he DOES know quests. All those creepy things that Cinthia is asking for that the Brocades like?, he gently takes her aside and tried and fails to explain Nightmare, Graveyard, and Harvesters and why he needs to do the quests for those instead of her. She doesn't get what he's saying at all, but she's nice sweet girl and does understand he will be happy if he gets this, so she says...OKAY! While she likes all kinds of toys, she kinda only took the other things because her mommies told her it'd be only fair if she did and she likes to be fair.
Or Not.
