Hi guys. So the other day I was trying to stream the new episode of Doctor Who and I went to a page that was recommend on a facebook page. It didn't work so I closed out of it. Somehow, I must of downloaded something because there are ads every where on the page. I keep seeing the little note pop up saying Google Chrome has blocked a popup. And I keep clicking on them too because they are all over the place. I went to my control panel to see if there was anything I could uninstall but the only recent thing that shows was something I downloaded. I'm guessing I have a virus but I don't know what else to do. Anyone have any tips? I use Google Chrome and I tried to switch to Firefox but he ads were there too.

[edit] I am now running a Microsoft Security scan. It will probably take a while because I chose to do the full scan.

Avast antivirus, malwarebytes. Full scan on both. (not at the same time) Also helps to alt+delete (on windows) and hit task manager to look for anything running that seems off. DON'T JUST END ANY RANDOM PROCESS do a google search for the file name and make sure it's safe/required or actually bad.

I ran the Microsoft and Malwarebytes and nothing turned up. I also alt+deleted and the only apps running were Google Chrome and the Microsoft. Despite doing all this, I still have ads everywhere. I'm going to see my parents tomorrow so I'll bring my laptop with me and see if my IT guy (my dad) can take a look at it. Thanks for the reply.

You wanna go through processes on the task manager, not the applications. In my experience, that's where the things have been hiding.

I had my dad look at it and he downloaded a few things things, including CCleaner and Adwcleaner. The virus had a really good grip so it took a while before he finally got it. Thanks again for the reply. I'll be more careful next time.
