Recently in the GA Games Forum there has been a rash of Nerco'ing. The thing is, the nature of these threads(Take it or Leave it, Kiss, Kill, Marry, etc) it doesn't make sense for them to have a three month time limit. There is still a person above you, and the information ins't time sensitive. Its not like the advice threads or feedback on a wardrobe item that came out in January.

I think that the Games like that shouldn't be a part of the Necro Rule.

But some people want to know what your response is to their HA or whatever the game is. If there is an old board, get it locked and remake it. It isn't that hard!

Currently the only forum I can think of that isn't affected by the necro rule is the Problems and Bugs because sometimes we want to make sure something is resolved so we can lock and move. I don't think this should change.

But I really think this belongs more in Suggestions and Ideas...

if i posted in a game thread 5 months ago, chances are, i don't really care about a response now, also it could be annoying to some people getting pinged for something they posted 3 months ago.

i think creating a new board would be easier and get more users and posts from people that are interested NOW and not 3 months ago

When there are exceptions to rules it just makes it harder for staff to fairly enforce them, and harder for users to follow them. This seems really unnecessary.

I have to agree with this and would take it even further to say that most of the social-scene boards and probably some others that I don't browse really shouldn't be so lock-happy. It's not like its a situation where a bunch of necro'd threads are pushing new and active threads off the first page, its more like none of the threads are very active. I think in order to maybe get a little more activity on them threads in forums where there is barely any activity shouldn't be locked for necroing. There really just isn't a need for it, its not helping anything. That's only for the very inactive forums though, where the first page has last post dates over 3 months ago (as an arbitrary definition maybe?). Places like the market that move MUCH faster and do become irrelevant after a long time, it definitely does make sense to stop necroing. This might be a bit confusing for new players or old players even, but we're all 13+ and I think anyone who needed a reminder otherwise would still need one and probably not too many other people would.

While I can understand where people might find it useful to necro old stuff, I basically agree with the sentiment above. There are already many reasons why people are reluctant to post, making the rules inconsistent would just add one more reason to be intimidated by the forums.

The posters and the OP from topics that get necro'd have all moved on after 3 months. Most people move on much faster than that even tbh.

Recreating topics isn't hard if people are really that interested. No support.

True, people should just make new ones if they think others will be interested.

a) While I rarely post in the games forum I make the assumption that if one posted in a topic 5 months ago they either forgot about the topic or they no longer have any interest in the topic.

b) Picking and choosing which rules apply to which forum just makes the forums even more confusing.
