Who else is living in South Korea? I would love to meet other local players, and maybe meet up IRL at some point! Post here and introduce yourself!

I'm a Canadian whose been teaching English in Korea for three years now. I love it and I'll be here at least one more year! I've been on Subeta for a little over three years now, and I used to play Neopets (and Gaia!) before that. I haven't done much "real" gaming, but I really love the MMORPG zOMG on Gaia, Neoquest II on Neopets, and other games like that. Hmm, maybe Subeta should have an RPG! I really love the web series The Guild, which makes me want to check out WoW for the first time in my life. I'm scared I'll get sucked in and addicted, though! Haha.

Now it's your turn!

Hah, good to know. Thanks! It would be nice to check it out for fun. The PC rooms here are pretty epic and I'd love to finally go to one and do some gaming there! I'll just have to have self-restraint and only play it from time to time. Thanks! :)

And no worries about being off topic. It looks like no one else here (reading the forums anyway) is in Korea. Ah well. So off-topic posts are most welcome!

That makes sense! It's been like that with other games I've played too. Thanks for the head's up!

Computer gaming is a SPORT in South Korea. Most kids (well, boys) do it in their spare time. There are Starcraft TOURNAMENTS in South Korea, and the star Starcraft players are famous and treated like sports heroes. I've always wanted to go to a Starcraft tournament, but they always seem to be in Seoul (I live 4 hours away from Seoul). I'd love to make a trip up to one sometime, though! And take vidoes!!!

Eat Your Kimchi (a popular South Korean vlog on YouTube) has posted some footage of a Starcraft tournament, if you search for it you can check it out. :)

Interesting about Japan! No, it's different here. The PC rooms are where people go to play. The apartments (most people don't live in houses) are too small for consoles. Cell phone games are popular too.

Huh, that's interesting!

Starcraft is the big game here (which I think is Korean made?), and the new popular game is League of Legends (a U.S. one likely). There's a huge U.S. influence here, probably even more so than in Japan. The Korean war basically levelled everything and then the U.S. helped to create a new society here. The old monarch system became completely irrelevant after the war. Everyone was equal in poverty.

Anyway, maybe that's why the U.S. games (and everything!) are so popular here.
