Hi :) I've made an account about 2 years ago, but I didn't really get into Subeta. Recently I logged in again and found it more interesting, so I kept playing it. I have a few questions, which I would not find answers to, if you guys would be so kind to answer them. I added numbers to them, for easy reference.
Regarding tattoos:
1.) When I try to submit a tattoo, I get a blank, unloaded image (small white square that indicates that image didn't load) on the preview area. I made sure for it to be the right file requirements. I don't see the base either. Any idea what's wrong?
2.) What is the exact base size for it so it does not need resizing? The bases I got from "custom clothing" are I believe twice the size of how the avatars are displayed. Does that mean Subeta displays things at 50% or I need to resize the base to 50% and then draw on it?
Regarding custom clothing:
3.) "The item name and artwork must accurately portray the image worn on the avatar. For example, you may not have a cupcake item with a wig for the overlay. You may, however, have an overlay that is a cupcake held in the avatar's hand. "
How come I then see a lot of cupcakes, teas and ice-creams among custom clothing that actually give you a hairstyle?
4.) What is a difference between submitting directly to cash shop and not choosing this option / and why limiting or not limiting batches? "Please select the maximum number of batches that may be released." What are batches anyway? Sold copies of the item?
5.) "Limited releases have a maximum of 999 batches and cannot be sold in the Cash Shop" If they aren't sold in the cash shop, where are they sold?
6.) A similar question to the tattoo one, what size does the base need to be? They wrote that those are "full size" bases, which made me assume that that is the size the clothes need to be, but now I am not sure. Should I scale those bases to 50% to get the correct avatar size, the same one as it's displayed on the site?
7.) I saw it mentioned somewhere that we are not allowed to only charge $ for the art, but need to add a game currency to the payment option, however, I saw shops that only accept $ for certain areas. Does that mean you may only charge $ for some areas of your service, if you as well accept SP payment for other areas? Or do we have to offer sp/csc/$ for everything and it just isn't strictly enforced?
8.) If I understood correctly, a common thing that people do when create custom clothing is to find 9 people who want it first, who pay for the 9 remaining items that you are given when your design is accepted. So those are the 10 copies you are given when submitting. Let's say you charge 600csc per slot. You have at the end 400csc and one copy of your item, correct?
9.) ^What happens if you chose multiple batches in this case, or unlimited?
Regarding other noob stuff:
10.) Is there any benefit to donating items?
11.) I got a 2 year achievement, but not loyalty box; is there somewhere special I need to go to get it?
12.) Is there a text editor for the forum that I'm missing or you need to know the codes?
Sorry for the question spam ._.
Answer to question 10 if you donate food to Charity you get an achievement for it it goes from 5 to 250.And for each level you finish you get a prize. Question 11 if you go to you prefs page you should get it if you do not get it go to the help section it is on the dashboard there you can create a ticket about it.
I know there was a glitch with this so not sure if it is fixed.Hopefully someone will come along and answer your other questions
Ah, I see, thank you :) I did go to pref page, that is how I got the achievement. I will file a ticket.
Yep, this is unfair unreasonable and just plain asshatty. Goddessess know why all the hairs are edible sweets and why they are allowed to be illustrated this way. But they WILL apply it to YOU ruthlessly if you are new and have just submitted a new article. All these ridonkulous Item imgages are permitted to "known artists", so there's a definite Ladies Garden Club thing going on with this.
It used to be that if you submitted something directly to the Cash Shop, you were not allowed to sell it yourself. Limiting batches used to be voluntary, but CW Creators got together and started a cartel with the idea to increase their profits by creating artificial scarcity. Then they started bitchfights for those who didn't comply, and this is not the kind of atmo Subeta wants. Subeta responded by making this scarcity enforceable. Nowadays there are those who wish to create an additional layer of scarcity say that their CWs are "Private Releases" and buyers are restricted in various (inventive/snooty) ways from ever re-selling. Subeta DOES NOT enforce this.
You have to market them yourself. To your friends via sMail, or in the r200 Advertising Forum, or when you are originally syndicating the production (if you do this, which most Creators do)
There's a link to the working bases exactly where you saw those words.
Are you looking at real-item rules here? For CWs that I have seen the $ only is for creation services. For items, you must still offer site scrip or Trade.
Yes, this is how syndication works here.
You have to syndicate each batch (or underwrite it yourself) unless it's in the Cash Shop, in which case there is no batch of ten limitation. But you must create a batch of 10 for the first time, to demonstrate either demand (or if you are wealthy site-wise) or your resolve.
Oh, that's a shame.
Ah, you covered the majority of the questions.
3.) Good thing you warned me. 4.) I see. I'm still not quite sure if I really understand this system. 5.) That happens before or after you actually submit the item and pay for it? 6.) Yes, that is where I got the bases from, however, they are twice the size of the HAs, which is why I wasn't sure if they needed to be scaled in order to use them or is that a default size and everything is automatically scaled on the website. 7.) I guess any. I thought the rules were universal. 9.) " You have to syndicate each batch (or underwrite it yourself)" I'm not sure what do you mean by that. English is not my first language and while I had to look-up many of the words in your reply, I'm not really sure how this sentence applies to the case. I guess what I'm asking is how do you syndicate or underwrite it.
Thank you for replies!
5 You can try to test fly a particular item by starting up a thread in the CW section, so you can market both before and after you submit, and before and after each batch, if you want. Many artists have their own threads that they use as external-shops. Even if you put your item directly in the Cash Shop, Subeta will not "sell" the item for you, so you can market items there too, I suppose.
I have my one CW for sP in a Shop so that anyone could Shop Search it. This is lazy, and quite unpopular as marketing methods go. My main shop which is huge is Ephemeral Concepts. My CW shop is Frivolous Fancies.
You should use the bases provided at the size they are.
Not sure that economic theory translates, but you are asking many detailed questions so here it is, there is a tl:dr below: Syndication is a pre-capitalist way of raising money. You get people to come in for shares of whatever good you think that all you-all will want (like telephone service, or sewers, or a church, or a railroad line with cars). The Syndic is the boss, and directs what shares people must pay, no matter how "fair" or "unfair" this may be, because nobody else has the capital to do anything like this or is likely to. Everyone gets out what they paid for upon completion, and the syndicate is (usually) over. Limited stock companies are an extension of this. If you are super wealthy, (in real-life, usually this means more than anyone around ever) then you are not a Syndic, you are an Underwriter. This means you buy a thing or good or service ahead of time, knowing perfectly well (or hoping like mad!) that you can sell any personally-unneeded parts of it.
Because many batches are financed this way and many users wish to create multiple items in the future, cooperation between CW buyers beyond any particular batch is potentially enforceable. Investors can just ignore you if you do not comply. Thus the Private stuff I mentioned above.

To answer question number 3:
Basically from what I understand, you can have a cupcake or any other random thing as your CW item image as long as there is a feature of the overlay visible in the item image. A lot of people make food item images for their wigs as they're cute, but there will always be a bit of the hair in the item image. For example, here's one of my favourite CW wigs:
- the "cotton candy" bit is actually hair. ^-^ Kinda gross when you think about it; hair in food but they look adorable. I like collecting the ones with food and other cutesy item images personally.
I agree that other users find the cutesy imaged items and food names are popular here on Subeta. Any potential CW creator should keep this in mind. Have you yourself submitted any CW?
How it was applied to me: the name of the item had to have a concrete and completely unmistakable representation in the item image, and the item image had to directly represent in an unmistakable way what the item was. In no circumstances was the item Description a justification for any of this nor was my explanation of what the proposed item image was and how it did directly relate was accepted.
I have seen commentary in 's New CW thread by other CW creators that suggests strongly to me that it is typical for this to be strongly enforced for new CW submitters, and the artist I commissioned also told be from her own experience that this was in fact true.
The CW you have as example doesn't do either of those things at all. Maybe our OP will be able to get away with something like this, maybe not. shrugs There's a limit to how many times you can re-submit an item. IMO since real money is involved and since artists deserve compensation for their time, until she has an "in", better safe than sorry.
I have submitted a couple of CWs that I've commissioned from other people, but they were just hairclips and companions and it was very easy to make the CI match the overlay. ^-^; So not really relevant I guess.
I'm just commenting on what I've seen with friends submitting CWs; when they've had problems with the CI not representing the overlay, the problem tended to be that the CI was more of a concept and didn't have any features of the overlay visible in the CI. With wigs it seems to be pretty easy to just shove a bit of the hair in there somewhere.
I'm sorry that you've had problems! If you had to explain how the item image was relevant though that may have been your issue. With the CWs I've collected, there's always a bit of the overlay there in the CW, whether it's a bit of the hair there instead of frosting, or a bit of the dress fabric wrapped around a cake. Also if you have a wig you can't just call it "Pink Cupcake", from what I've seen a word representing hair has to be in the title; "locks", "tresses", "waves" etc. I find it difficult to believe that there's any favouritism going on personally, even the most experienced artists seem to get denials every now and then. If you're unhappy though maybe you should submit a ticket. ^-^;
3) The cupcakes CWs and stuff that you usually see that give you a hairstyle usually have a bit of hair somewhere in the CI and that's why it's okay. and are a couple of examples. Something that happened to me was when I first tried to submit the , the CI originally was the bunny with only a lace collar because I thought that the collar would be enough to represent the dress but it got denied. After changing it to having the bunny wear the dress, it got accepted.
Yes, each batch has 10 slots. Limited batches means a limited number of a specific CW released on the site and usually people release somewhere between 1 - 4 batches. The more limited an item is, the more value it has. If you submit directly to the cash shop, you skip the filling slots bit. If you submit an item with unlimited batches, you can put it in the cash shop later. You get 15% of the CW cost each time someone buys it from the cash shop.
You can make a board in the Custom Clothing forum to find enough people to fill a batch. You can also cover the total cost yourself and then sell the copies to others.
They provide those bases to make it easier for you to draw the overlay and see details better. You'll have to scale the overlay image down to 50% before submitting though.
As per the Art Market rules: "You may not sell/auction any digital or non-physical item that only offers the option to purchase/bid with real money. You must also have an sp/csc/item option. However, if you are selling physical items (which must be shipped), you do not have to have an sp/csc/item slot.
NOTE ON CUSTOM WEARABLE ITEMS: While the art for custom wearables may be commissioned on-site for USD, the items themselves CANNOT be sold for off-site goods or currency."
Dependes on what kind of CW you're submitting. Wigs cost more to submit than small accessories for example. Here's the pricing scheme.
You can keep filling the other batches and when everyone has paid for their slot you'll receive the extra CSC that wasn't used to pay for the batch. For wigs, if 10 people paid 600 CSC for a slot, you'd get 1000 CSC after everyone has paid for their slot.
Alright, I'm slowly beginning to understand how things work here.
Ah, I see, thank you for the thorough reply. Yes, I will much rather follow the rules as thoroughly as I can to avoid any issues.
I suppose I just found it interesting as the rules mention cupcakes, which is exactly what people seem to do for wigs. I am getting used to it now, but often times I still don't know that a certain item is a wearable, unless I happen to hover over it; so personally I don't like it because it's potentially misleading, but I can see why people find it cute. After I hover over the item I can see how it's relevant to the overlay, but if I don't, it mostly looks just like food.
(4.) Oh I see. I was wondering why you have an option to release 999 batches if I only see people doing it up to like 4. (8.) Ah, I've seen the scheme, but I thought that was about the price for it in the cash-shop and not what you need to pay for release. That was before I knew how much is CSC worth though.
All custom items are wearable. Their rarity is R200 and there's a tiny star in the top right-hand corner to denote that an item image is for a CW. Good luck submitting. :)

you are welcome. Ping me when you do your first creation I wanna see!
FWIW I have the site's seventh largest shop, so I can totally afford to buy a wig on a lark if I'm looking for a specific hair for just-the-right HA I am creating and am looking throughout the site. But because the CW item images are so unrepresentative I always end up using a default hair or a Subeta official item hair because there'd be no way for me to find that hair in the All Clothing in Subeta based on the item image.
My understanding of that rule is that the item image has to include whatever the wearable overlay is. Like just a cupcake can't represent a wig, but a cupcake with a braid wrapped around it is fine.
Official items actually have much more lenient standards of what item images and wearable overlays can go together than those for CWs. Some Table for Two costume trunk items for example:
