I asked this in the recent Keith Answers chat, and it got a few upvotes, but didn't make it in time to get answered before Keith ended the chat. So I thought I'd make a little suggestion thread to see how the reaction is to this idea.

Back when I first joined Subeta, I was super in to pets. I needed them all. So I got my first five, then got a gold account and got my next five. Eventually, when loyalty totems were released, I used a few of those (Five according to my dashboard count, seems accurate to me) for more pet slots. Now that is fifteen pets. Except that I currently have twenty-six. That's eleven pet slots I paid for (I don't -think- I got any freebies from price changes or anything).

Now, however, I'm less interested in having a bunch of pets. I don't do anything with most of them. I don't really have plans to do anything with most of them. Of course, I could put them up for adoption, find them nice active homes, but that doesn't change the fact that I spent a medium amount of real life cash on these pet slots.

Now, my suggestion.

What if I could exchange my pet slots for some sort of compensation. Specifically, sP. I know Subeta is in the business of getting people to buy CSC, so I don't expect to be able to "return" my slots for even half or a quarter of what I paid in cash. But what if it could be made so that users could return their pet slots for an amount of sP. I'm not entirely sure what would be an acceptable amount. I don't even know what the going rate IS for a new pet slot. The compensation amount would still need to be worked on.

Additionally, I'm not sure if, behind the scenes, loyalty pet slots and CSC pet slots look any different. I feel like that would be an issue that may stand in the way, as well. I don't think loyalty pet slots ought to be "redeemable" or "refundable."

I don't know. It's just something I think about sometimes, and wonder what other thoughts other users might have.

If this was implemented, it'd need to be a really low sp payout, low enough that its not worth it to even bother. Allowing people to convert CSC to sp @ a set ratio isnt a good idea, not unless its a really bad one for the player.

Agreed completely. Like I said, I don't know what the current rate is for a new pet slot. I think it's between five and ten dollars? I know Keith has said that he doesn't want to put an official price on CSC, but if 500 CSC generally sells for around 18m, maybe the pet slots could be between 1m on the low end, or 10m on high end.

Absolutely nothing compared to the twenty dollars (I personally paid) per pet slot, but better than nothing?

(Just an idea, maybe still too high? I really have no idea)

A current pet slot is 2000 csc. That would be almost 74 million if it went by the price of a 1k gift card.

Personally, I don't care for the idea. A person bought the account upgrades, I don't they should just be allowed to return them for something else because they are bored/don't want them anymore.

Yeah, I think it's probably better to just keep your slots Adopt them out, free up some server space, but keep the slot. If there was an "official" conversion rate between csc/sp, it would only hurt the player and probably the economy. It could cause the rate of sP-purchased csc to fall (or rise even higher and it's pretty high now), and while that would be good for us (temporarily) it would be bad for the site.

I don't see this working. Do you get reimbursed if you decide to change a pet name? No you get charged. Just because you changed your mind on something, doesn't mean that you should get anything back. At one point you wanted them and at one point you used them. If this were to even be entertained, then people would complain if they returned one after a month and got the same refund as someone that used it for years and then decided to give it back. They'll be asking for prorated return rates based on how long you've had the slot and how long it was actually used.

It would get ugly fast.

There's no way to tell where original slots came from (plushies, totems, or special event slots given directly by staff), so this couldn't work for anything prior to the most recent price decrease when slots got their own column in preferences.

And 5/10 if the new slots could have been purchased during black friday for $10/1k csc, so that would have to be the absolute max. Otherwise this would be so exploited (have friends hold pets, cash in all slots, wait for black friday and rebuy them all for half the price).

Really though this seems silly abd unnecessary. I've put plushies in my collection they're worth tons now but that was on me I shouldn't get them back because I changed my mind. Same for books read to my secondary+ pets, but same deal. I think this will open up a can of worms that should best be left sealed.

No support for reasons everyone else has already said. Plus, if you're saying it can be an amount between 1mil and 10mil, it seems a little arbitrary. If it can't be any high amount because of Black Friday and other reasons, then what's really the point in receiving some amount as low as 1mil per slot? What if you want the slot later down the line and regret it? How silly will you feel for cashing it in for what could be what? 1/74th of the price? Not worth the bother imo.

Why do people return video games or movies to Game Stop when they know they'll only get like two bucks for the game they paid sixty bucks for?

Because they don't play it any more and it's better to have a little something and free up space on their shelf then hold on to something they don't need any more.

technically you can 'free up space on your shelf' just by adopting out the pets that you don't want, though. sorry, but I don't think you should be able to return pet slots like used games.

The reason game stores give you money for used games is because they know they can probably make a profit by reselling the game for more than they paid you for it. Subeta can't resell used pet slots for a profit.

You could give pets to people who have the gold accounts but are going to buy slots soon or try experimenting them n giving them out. Maybe something else. like said it would probably hurt the economy if it happened.

The thing is, as stated by Affirmation, games can be resold, a pet slot however cannot. If someone gives up their pet slots, the staff on site aren't going to then give the pet slots that were taken back to another user on site.

I understand the thought behind this, and why it was suggested, but I honestly don't think it's feasible and as others stated this would severely unbalance the economy if it was allowed to happen so no, not particularly a fan of it.
