When it comes to oddities my family might take the cake. I know if both parents are left dominant then the children are very likely. And that if only one is, the possibility is less than 2%. The point I'm going for is that out of my siblings three of the four are left handed, but neither of our parents are. My sister researched this but has found nothing to support this.
From what I've read, environment plays a large (maybe larger than genes) part in left handedness. Maybe there is just something about your mom's womb that's turning out lefties. ;)
I'm left-handed, but neither of my parents are. I believe my grandpa on my mother's side was left-handed though.
Based on what I've seen out of the current research, genes are not considered a major factor, although scientists still have no idea what contributes to handedness. That also corresponds with what I've seen in my family, where my brother and I are lefties but everyone else is right-handed.
I'm left handed. Both my mother and father are left handed. My two sisters and brother turned out to be right handed.
I have a cousin that's a lefty, my BFF is a lefty, my mother-in-law and brother-in-law are lefty's too. :)

i am a leftie as well, being left handed has not alot to do with, it is how your parents raise you. When parents hand their children something the children take the object the easiest way for them. So if your mom is sitting on your right and handing you something from the right you will take it with the left.
My hubby's mom's side is mostly lefties. Me and my mother are lefties. My son is a righty like his dad. I tried teaching my son as if he was a lefty from the start, just because it seemed so likely he was. Nope. Has nothing to do with what your parents teach you or what hand you use. It's all you. It's as genetic as being left brain dominant or right.
Also when my mom was a kid, you weren't allowed to use your left hand, she'd get smacked, even by teachers, for using her left hand to write etc. Even though she tried using her right, she couldn't. It's REALLY not about learning

I'm the only lefty in my immediate as well as extended family. It's so lonely :P

In my family there's not a single left-handed person I'd know of. :o
My dad is left handed, but no one else in our family was. My adopted son is left handed though :) It's interesting watching him learn to write.
I'm the only leftie in my family. Awww we're all anomalies.
Everyone in my family is right handed, yet my daughter is left handed. Go figure.
I don't think it really has anything to do with genetics. I've tried doing my own research on left/right handedness but never found anything concrete on it being genetic or environmental. Personally I think it's just random. Like maybe your dominant hand is the one you flexed and moved more in the womb, and people who are ambidextrous just moved them both the same. I'm the only left-handed out of four children, and the only other left-handed person in my family is my great aunt. I'm hoping my son turns out to be a little southpaw too lol.
