So I underwent surgery a month and a half ago because I broke my ankle and 5 ligaments. A week ago I was able to take off the bandages and wash my foot (YAY!!) It still have to use the orthopedic boot but I get to take it away for washing and sleeping.

BUT I CAN NOT STAND THE SCRATCH WHEN I TAKE THE BOOT OFF. It's all red around the scars because I can stand it and I wish I could scratch the scars but I should not because I think I might tear them and I don't want that! :(

Have this ever happened to you? What have you done?

Itching is the wound healing itself. As much as it must suck, it's actually a good thing. D=

The only surgery I ever had to undergo has been dental-related, sooo not much I can really contribute beyond that. =P

When I was helping with my mom's after surgery care, we found out that cocoa butter helped soothe the most and it'll keep the scars from getting tight/better hydrated and reduce their visibility. c:

My doctor said the same thing, that it is either healing or rotting xD

I've seen that!! I think that may be of great help!! Hydratation is what my foot most needs right now. Thank you :)

Cocoa butter is a good option (as someone already mentioned). Keeping the skin moist will really help. If it dries out, that's when you can get seriously uncomfortable! Also, if you can wear socks, do. I find that having socks on rather than having bare feet is more comfortable. :)

Vitamin E oil is used by many to aid the healing of wounds because it is an anti-oxidant. Also, after surgery on my paws, the physician recommended that the scars be massaged daily ( after sutures were removed) to help break down keloids from forming and can even out the tissues. I massaged them with Vit E oil and it also helped with the itching. As always, do not apply anything to your skin that you know you have a sensitivity or allergy to and stop any therapy which worsens or aggravates your condition.

Understand that once the skin has closed, you cannot open up the suture easily by massaging, unless you have skin that just doesn't heal normally. Don't scratch, massage.

Yes, I am a role-playing character, but I don’t bite (much.)

I know they say not to use it but when I had some minor plastic surgery done, I used polysporin and bandages to heal up my wounds faster and it helped tone down on the itching as well. (Not to mention it pulled out some minor infection that would've caused a problem had I not used it.)

I've been secreatly using bandages to reduce the sore. The itching is considerably gone by now, thank you :3

Figured but I thought I'd leave a tip anyway. ^^ Good on ya! Never understood the "don't use bandages or polysporin" rule, myself. It's like, "gee doc, do you want me to get an infection?" XD Well, have a speedy recovery all the same then. :3 See ya!
