So yeah, I wasn't going to do this contest because I'm super stressed irl and I have so much to get done in areas that don't involve cake. But hell, someone had to go and mention cake and then cupcakes and then before I knew it, I found myself with apron on in my kitchen. Bugger. So I guess I'm doing this baking thing after all then.

And of course, even though a box mix would be easier, I never seem to be one to do things the easy way. Hence me on the computer at midnight last night looking up recipes. Finally decided on this cherry chip cake recipe, although I'll be using frosting from the can because I have it already.

My theme is Sweetheart, and I'm thinking I'll do a pet nomming the cake depending on how the fondant turns out. Yeah, I decided to make fondant from scratch too, because all the store had was a five gallon pail of it. I did find an easy fondant recipe however...

Update 1 Sitting here at the kitchen table, covered in confectioners sugar and cake mix and shortening and vegetable oil and sweating my butt off because it's 80 or so degrees out and hanging out near an oven that's at 350 degrees isn't that fun, lol. But I'm happy because the fondant turned out smooth as a baby's butt...hopefully it'll taste better than baby butt though! It should taste like buttercream, so we'll see. The cake will be done in about 10 minutes, so I'll post pics when I get it done!

Update 2 Cake is out and cooling! So now I'm back on here looking up ideas. The Glade thing just wasn't meshing in my mind so I was looking around at the pets on Subetalodge and BAM Sweetheart. I really, really hope that's not going to be too overdone because, well...Sweetheart = cakes and candies and such. But with the cherry chip cake, it's just too perfect. So off a'sketching I go!

Finished Cake! :D I ended up getting food coloring everywhere, lol. Thank God I wore an apron. My hands now look roughly the color of those magenta-colored people in Guardians of the Galaxy...which had my fangirl mind considering a cosplay for a few seconds before I realized I'd probably color everything I sat on, rofl. ANYWAYS, I think the cake was a success! It's the most complicated thing I ever made and I'm pretty damn proud of it. Spent most of the day in the kitchen, but it was worth it. Never going near fondant again though, damn. The cake though, my parents and I ate it after dinner and it was SO GOOD. Ugh, I had forgotten how much I love cherry flavored things. I've always found fondant a nightmare to work with except making fondant figures (It's like playdough lol). I just finished my cake and have already nommed some of it Raspberry Cream Cake I wanted to get some sugar figure balloons and flowers but sadly, I'm not Miss. Money Bags. It is super delicious though

I also had some raspberry whipped cream left over, so I put some in a bowl and gave it to my dog, Max This guy

Ugh, that looks so yummeehhhh!! I love raspberry, so much, lol. And OMG your dog is so FLUFFEH I'M GONNA DIIIIE!! XD That's so funny you gave him some though, because I gave my cat, Emma, a little bit of frosting (I wiped it on her paw because I'm a bad mama rofl) but she didn't like it and just pouted in the corner until I wiped it off. Such a baby. XD

But yes! I finished my cake too! I'm going to update the first post if you want to take a look! And ohmygod, the fondant was a total bitch, lol. I'm never using it again. I also learned that food coloring tastes like shit when eaten in its out-of-the-bottle form. I got some on my finger and just licked it off and eeeeeewww it was gross. XP

It really is. I brought a huge slice home with me and left the rest with my parents. It was really easy to make too. And yes, he is all wooly at the moment lol. It's almost time for a spa day for him lol. He really liked it. Haha had it been my sister's cats, they would have been all over that frosting. Her one cat, Rory, loves frosting lol.

I was so miserable when we were working with fondant in my cake decorating class. Haha for our final cake, our teacher told us to do whatever we wanted. Everyone was stressing out over the fondant and I dumped chocolate gauche over mine and everyone was giving me death stares. They were so mad they didn't think of that lol

My dad wants to show my cake to his friend at church who's a professional pastry chef. Maybe he'll take me on as a apprentice, lol. Haha, I don't think so though. The only reason I don't like the idea of being a baker is the early morning crap. Mornings and I do not mix well. Oddly enough, my cat Emma, she loves peaches. And oranges. Strange, strange animal. I love the little bugger to pieces though, she's my baby.

That would be great! As much as I love baking and cooking, I wouldn't want to do it for a living because I would hate it. Plus, I don't do early mornings either lol. Haha Rory loves just about everything. She really likes sugar cookies, cake, cheese pizza, popcorn, and chinese food. We try not to let her eat that stuff but she still manages to get some. She is really odd lol

Did you submit your cake for the contest? I am so frustrated right now. It keeps on giving me error messages and I don't think it's submitting right. I made a ticket, but the UA said she couldn't check it and to post in the thread about it in bugs, but I can't find the thread. I'm going to be pissed if I took all this time to make an epic cake and then I can't even enter it. fuming

Yes, I entered mine in the contest. I had problems too. I left the page and went back and was able to upload the picture. That's really odd. Maybe give it a few hours and try again?
