Are you guys as excited about the cake contest as I am? What kind of recipe do you think you're going to use? Maybe we can swap ideas and get some inspiration for eachother.

Did you know that you can use a banana in place of an egg when baking? I go through so many eggs and sometimes run out, this trick is a lifesaver!

What kind of cake are you guys going to bake? Share the recipe, spread the sweet love!

I can't decide if I want to make a regular cake or cupcakes. I'm not very good at frosting though. :(

Sunday I'll be going to visit my aunt on the UES (and the LUSH spa!) so I'm going to try to pick up some supplies then.

Wait wait wait...can you seriously substitute a banana for an egg?? I ❤ bananas!

I would really like to make something for this contest, but I don't know what to make. Let alone the time to make it. Life is just...uggghhhhh right now and I don't know if I can actually take the time it takes to bake something right. Are we allowed to begin with box mixes? I know I don't have the time to do anything from scratch.

I personally like dump cakes. Take a can of fruit and dump it out, fluid and all into a pan, you normally need for the cake size, then dump out the cake mix and spread it evenly on top bake in the oven for normal time and temp. When it's done it's kinda cobbler/cake like and simple and enjoyable :) Making it is easy too just pretty much a 1/1 ratio of 1 can to one box, so larger cakes take more but so yummy, and white or yellow cake mixes turn out best with this.

FINALLY GOT THE 15K WARDROBE DONE!!!!! Next up gutting and selling it.

There are tons of tips and infographics if you Google "baking substitutions" like this one. Also, I think a boxed mix would be fine because cake decoration is such a huge part of this contest. I still don't know what I want to do for my theme.

Hmm. I might give this a shot then, if I can think of what to do before the deadline. I have some ideas, but I don't really know what to pick and I don't really want to post the ideas for help deciding in case someone else chooses what I want to do, lol.

[edit] Ok, so I've decided on my idea. And I'm going to share it because, what the hell, lol. I'm going to make '10 cupcakes for 10 years'. Each is going to be a different pet color (angelic, reborn, glade, etc.) and my description is this: "10 colors for 10 years! Please do not smear all over your pets in attempt to color them. For noms only!" I think I'll call it...Platter of cupcakes? Plate of Cupcakes? Celebration Cupcakes? I don't know, something like that. Even if I don't win, at the very least I'll get to nom cupcakes, lol.

Whenever I "cheat" and used a boxed chocolate cake mix, I'll replace one of the eggs with 3 TBSP of mayonnaise and use a splash less oil. I know it sounds gross, but the cakes turn out extra fluffy and moist and delicious!

Unfortunately I can enter the baking contest because I just started college.. so unless microwave brownies constitute as baking, I'm out of luck. Can't wait to see what people craft up, though!!

you can substitute things on recipes (especially baking) but make sure you adjust measurements and consistency. That might be a good guideline if you are trying new things. some recipes work better for different regions, so you might need more bananas or less depending on the recipe. (just random 2 cents)

If I'm going to make one (which is when i find something in subeta as theme), then i'll probably make a "biscuit" with cookie crumble and dark chocolate mouse on the inside. But I hate hate hate food colouring and eat nothing with food colouring, so i'm not sure how in the world i'm going to make it subeta themed :(

And I doubt i'll get away with just calling it a cake dedicated to the marsh colour

I am SO frustrated. I can't enter my cake for some reason. It keeps crashing my browser (FF) and giving me error messages. I am going to be so angry if I spent all this time on a cake for nothing. -_-

I ended up using a double chocolate cake recipe of mine that is a family favorite and a sure crowd pleaser :) It's a milk chocolate cake, swirled with teal cake (a special recipe). The frosting is a silky smooth semi-sweet buttercream chocolate - so heavenly. I can't wait to see how everything pans out. :)

I made berry pudding cake. I figured I should make a nice cake since I can't decorate one to save my life. The cake was sweet and moist and the berries were tart and jammy. I made colored powdered sugar and used it for a sweetheart color scheme and called my submission Summer Sweetheart Berry Pudding Cake.

So Darn EZ Cake

Take a box of Angel Food Cake mix (just the contents of the box, no need to follow the directions on the box), & combine it with a 20 ounce can of crushed pineapple in its own juice.

(No need to use a mixer, just stir it with a spoon) When you do this, something magical happens.

The mixture starts to froth & it turns into an amazingly airy, fluffy bowl of deliciousness right before your eyes.

Once it's all mixed up,grease and simply pour it into a 9 x 13 cake pan & bake 350 for 30 minutes.

You can top it with whipped cream or any frosting you like if you choose, it tastes great plain too.

RIP Mom, I love & miss you more than you know. Tell Dede hi.

I used a vegan vanilla cake recipe and substituted coconut sugar (which is healthier) for regular white sugar. It only used coconut oil, so it's pretty healthy (or as healthy as a cake can get!). For the icing I used a regular icing recipe (not vegan) with shortening, butter, and lots of food coloring. It tasted a bit plain so I added a bunch of peppermint essential oil to the icing, so now it's mint flavoured and green coloured. I'm happy with my final result!

I decorated it with candies from South Korea (where I live) and it ended up looking like a monster's face! The candies and cookies formed the number '10' to be subeta-themed, and I think the 'monster mint' cake would make a great Subeta item should it win. I've had great feedback on the cake (decorations and taste) -- a discerning friend told me he was surprised by the vanilla cake and mint icing go well together. I only have a few pieces left now and I'll be sad to see it go! This contest was a lot of fun -- I've never actually decorated a cake full-out before. I think I'll do this again when my birthday comes up! You can never have enough birthday cake. :)
