I went to visit a friend at a place I once worked at about 2 summers ago, and scored myself a little 2 month job to make a website layout. I'm happy (money and to have more experience in that field as I am an art student) but I also feel like I have blown away my lazy summer fun! XD
whelp, its not really a job job and it has a flexible schedule...
Do have or wish you had a summer job? If you do, what are you doing?
I don't have a summer job, but rather a job-job. Like, no school, just work and pay the bills.
Being an adult sucks. =(
Argh, lucky, I wish I had a summer job. :( I feel like no one is going to hire me since I would have to leave when school starts up in September anyways. Why would they hire me for only two months over someone else who could stay longer? :P
Lazy summer fun? You have TWO MONTHS to make a website layout and you're worried about not having any summer fun? XD You could finish it in like a day!
I'll do it if you don't want to. :(
- oh no, its a big project because its for a teen art organization/program. It will be in public view and it has to be approved by the people who run it. Its a totally different ball game when you have pages upon pages of preexisting content to organize and sift through along with making the actual layout...
I also do feel the same way, I only have like 3 months off for summer and my school schedule is so tight and busy that I can't keep a regular job all year round...so I feel it is pretty useless to go job hunting for the summer, like what's the point.
Wish I could find one, but no one is hiring out here. We don't have much selection anyway.
That's cool. :D Hopefully still won't take 2 whole months though. XD What kind of CMS or whatever are they/you using to maintain the website after it's finished? The only reason I haven't tried to get a web design job is due to lack of maintenance knowledge. :c I really should at least spend my summer learning how to use one of them.
I did a little bit of babysitting (so not a real job lol but it was something), but it was an odd situation and everything kept changing. We weren't getting paid enough to deal with three kids, a dog, and a cat for six hours so I stopped doing it. D:
My summer job is babysitting my brother. Ten dollars a week isn't bad, and there's nothing I need to buy, anyway. :/
I'm in the process of looking for another job..
NO place is hiring where I live, and it's hard for even specialized folks to get one :-(
I need money to start paying for college books in a few weeks.
- I have no clue as of right now. :c A website already exists for them, its a matter of redoing most of it. I'm going to use Dreamweaver to put it together. The organization is for teens and its funded by grants, they have their own graphic design studio but lack the know how somewhat and wouldn't hire an outside professional. I'm self-taught and am hoping to also learn more through the process and as well as to basically help out a part of my community. I do plan on taking a web design and a Dreamweaver class in the future. I'm just a graphic design major who is very much interested in design for the web.
I graduated from university this spring, so I can't be a student worker or have a summer job any longer. I wish I could, I need the money and I'd be willing to sign paperwork saying I wouldn't expect a job past the end of August, but then the government wouldn't pay my employer for employing me, as I'm not a student. So it's not going to happen.
The past...6 years or so, I've worked on the factory floor. 5 years of that was as a fiberglass creeler working on a warper, which is horrible, dirty job, but it paid well. The other year I worked as a random fill-in worker for people on holidays in a glass plant, mostly at the temper glass ovens. So it's summer, hotter than hell, and I'm working around a giant oven that melts glass. 50 C working conditions suck :x
At least redesigning is always easier then starting from scratch. :) Lol. Dreamweaver is awesome! Only suckers code their own CSS, geez. ;)
my summer job=my usual job. My own one man company :P I wish I had something more social during the summer at least but what can I do ~ it pays well but there are 229349 different shitty taxes in this country plus I feel all exposed now that at least 7 new government authorities know everything about me :P I've signed more shit and filled out more forms during these 6 months than my entire life before...
I got mail from the Research unit too that someone who's anonymous has sent to check if I have had any old notices of unpaid bills and stuff. Creeps. Not like I pay anyone (well except all these taxes then).
THEY CAN'T BREAK YOU IF YOU DON'T HAVE A SPINE
I work for a children's summer program for slightly more than minimum wage, but the hours are flexible, and the work is fun. It's also a summer program, so I don't have to worry about "quitting" or anything.

I wish I had a summer job but with lacking a drivers lisence/permit (and am of age to have said items) and a food handlers permit, it's kinda hard to find a job around here where the cloest things are fast food places and the good places take a good hour of driving to get to.
