In this thread, I mentioned the "bug" where doing ">.<" in a sMail makes it delete text. I was told that this was not a bug and known about, and perhaps I should make a suggestion this be changed.

And so here I am! We need to be able to make >.< faces I tell you! I'm not sure why this would be in place and it seems... bad.

At the very least if you can't or won't change this, could we at least be warned when writing sMails that this is going to happen? I lost a block of text writing to someone because I used the ">.<" and it deleted it without me knowing.

Actually, I've just gone into a few ancient sMails and found that it had done this in the past. Since they're super-old, I don't know WHAT was lost and never sent to these people. Oh dear. ._.

This just happened to me five minutes ago. It always happens to me. I keep forgetting about it. sigh

I'm guessing it's an issue that can't be fixed, but I think have a link to a page of words and symbols that cause problems (or just displaying them on the page if it is short enough) would be nice!

I agree. This has happened to on a number of occasions as I keep forgetting that it happens. Please don't let it delete text!

It's because those angled brackets are a part of the html language. Html is allowed in smail, so when you make that face, the website thinks your eyes are the start or end of a line of code and everything gets mucked up.

The code &gt; (written just like that... ampersand gt semi-colon) and &lt; are html entities that can be used to produce the "greater than" and "less than" characters in your smails... I've tested it, and it works. (and if anyone was wondering if it's possible to smail yourself, it is... and it's kind of funny... hello Austria you have a new message from Austria!) It looks a little odd when written out, but it will allow you to make your face!

I did just test your code though and it does work, so thanks for that. Now my overwhelming need to make >.< at people does not have to go unfulfilled.

Although I still think we need a warning on the page for poor users who don't know no better.
