I've been reading him books but for some reason I can't get him to read any more books. Like I got to read a new book to him and it doesn't show his name under the 'read books to' section.

It usually means they've already read that book. You can view the books your pet has already read by going to Pets - Books Read under the options for your pet. c: -hopes she makes sense-

Whenever your pet has read a book their name gets removed from the list. So if you get a book and your pet's name is not there it simply means they read that particular book already.

Also another way to raise intelligence is by using stat boosters like , or (this item is a book but you can also use it more than once on your pet after they read it the first time you can continue to use them when you get them. But warning with that one sometimes you may not get any intelligence boost. It's a gamble)
