So one of my cats started acting sick just today at around 2ish pm(it's now 2ish am). Alright, she didn't seem too too bad, just some hairballs it seemed. I'll put the uglier details(which is from here on out) in a spoiler to save the squeamish from reading:

SPOILER (click to toggle) When I went to take care of cleaning the litterbox at around 9pm, as always, I noticed there was bloody diarrhea. Being the kinda', sorta' observant person I am, I noticed when she sat down earlier, she had some diarrhea on her bum that transferred to the sofa, but didn't think much of it, she likely got in to her sisters canned food, and could've caused it. Anyways, yes, at 9ish pm, there was mucusy, bloody, diarrhea.
The vet closes at 7pm, by the time I noticed she really needed to go to the vet, they were closed. I full-well plan on calling them right when they open in the morning since her diabetic sister has an appointment then.

In the meantime though, I'm worried sick and have to be up at 6:30 in the morning to give them food and her sister her insulin. But at this rate of worry I won't get any sleep.

I don't really want to leave her unsupervised, but what more can I do until tomorrow? Is there anything I can do for myself to maybe ease myself in to sleep?

Side note: This isn't the first time I've gone without sleep over an animal. This happened when I got my parakeet. Apparently she came to me with cancer and a failing liver and has since recovered nicely.

[edit] She has decided to sleep on my bed, so I might just decide to curl up next to her, and that'll make sure she stays fine. I'll try and get some sleep, will have updates though.

[edit] I had called the vet, they're booked until monday, unfortunately. ): I talked with my mom, who has significantly more experience with sick cats than I(unfortunately due to having a much smaller house and more cats), she believes my cat is just sick with a small virus as she's showing the same symptoms and to let it run its course unless it isn't better by tomorrow evening, in which case, I'm getting her to the vet on monday.

I hope so too....Yeah, she's at least eating and drinking. So that's good. Hopefully she keeps that up. I kind of don't want to go to my dads now because I can't take her with me to make sure she's okay. ):

It could also be something that was in the food. A while back, a few cats of mine/my mom's got really sick from some poisoned tin cat food. The company recalled the whole batch due to someone putting rat poison in it at the factory. (Sick people are sick.)

I really hope it's not that, and hopefully you can get to the vet before she gets any worse (if she doesn't get better). Does your vet have an emergency number, just in case? Some vets have an all-hours line you can call - it costs a little extra to call them in after hours, but sometimes it's necessary.

Update us when you know more? I hope your kitty will be okay. It could be intestinal parasites...they sometimes cause the...litter box symptoms you described.

and She's seemed to have gotten better, but now I'm sick. :/ I'm still going to keep an eye on her, but I think I should be able to get myself all fixed up.

My cat had similar symptoms and it turns out she had some kind of parasite/worm. Not as bad as it sounds. The treatment was an oral liquid 2x a day for a week ^_^

Do yourself a favor and get a small lidded container and put some of her poop in there. Or an empty pill vial will do also. The vet will most likely want a stool sample to test it :) It's a good way to rule out a lot of things. Good luck with everything. And in case it is a parasite, be sure to always wash your hands thoroughly after cleaning the box.

Even if she no longer has her litterbox problem and isn't throwing up? That's what's throwing me for a loop.

It's a tough call. Sometimes symptoms go away and come back again. It could have also been a temporary bug, just like people get.

Getting the poop tested costs about $50. If you have the money to spare for it, it's a good way to rule a lot of illnesses out. And good for peace of mind. My veterinarian always asks me for it when they get diarrhea. I have 4 cats and have been to a few different vets, they all want the poop sample XD Can I ask how old she is and if she goes outside? Parasites are more common in kittens, and can also spread from one cat to another via the litter box.

She's 11 years old, doesn't go outside and shares the litterbox with her sister. Her sister is also 11 years old, diabetic, and is having no symptoms that she had. She doesn't go outside either. But we do have an outdoor cat that we pet and then come in and pet them, if that means anything.

I don't think the brief pet of the outdoor cat would cause parasites. Honestly I'm at a loss. If her sister eats a specialty canned food, that may have well caused it. I've had cats get wicked poops from changing a food too suddenly and even from bad tap water. I give them bottled now. I think she'll be fine :) Let us know how the vet visit goes.

Okay, good. :) I know that's how they got fleas real bad once.

Considering how she seems nearly 100% better, I'm not sure if she really needs a vet visit anymore unless the symptoms come back?

I'd monitor her for a few days. As long as it doesn't happen again within a week it has probably passed :)
