I've built a story spread among several of my pets. I'd love some input from outside minds, if you would be willing to put some thought into it.

When the head of the Light agency resigned, he was replaced by a mad extremist known only as The Inquisitor. It was then that the balance of power was shattered, and the Dark; once friends, neighbors and partners; were persecuted, beaten down and driven out of their homes. Tired of it, the Dark lashed back and now war rages between the two. Other Elements are either dragged into the war or driven into exile.

So now I ask Subeta, do you know any ranks/needs that a resistance would need to fight back in the war? Is there anything I'm missing?

laurs # PStory # petaddicts (Sorry if anyone gets multiple pings!)

I already have:

Leader of the Resistance Healer (emotional/mental) Healer (physical) Spymaster/prevents spy infiltration Spy / prevents spy infiltration Field medic/rescue Tactician Assassin Clean watersupply/water transportation plant/animal affinity (supplies, food, animal guardian) Aerial support

Just me and my love of fireworks, but a "Demolition Squad" has always been a popular strike force for any Resistance... Perhaps also a Code Breaker / Interpreter to intercept and decode messages from both sides... Love your plot so far :)

A weapons supplier is usually a key player in any war. Especially for the rebels, as they may or may not have the capability, being the underdogs, to produce their own weaponry. Now of course, depending upon how fantasy/magical your setting is, this may be largely irrelevant, but there is often a key supply of some kind that one side tends to make a power grab for, thus leaving the other side floundering and struggling to keep up/survive.

: I was thinking of weapons, you need an armory even for a small army. You might have a special squad of infiltrators whose job is to obtain new weaponry from the enemy.

Depending on the era, a squad of blacksmiths would be vital for horseshoes, making and repairing weapons, hitches for carts and wagons, any kind of iron working that would be vital to the war effort. In the American Civil War, every army camp had a blacksmith / machinist. Also consider other crafters such as the leather-crafters and such who would be required to service all sorts of things like boots, saddles, scabbards.

The fighting ranks were usually divided up into foot ( paw ) soldiers, armed with the simple and most effective weapons of close combat ( swords, rifles ). These were supported by the projectile squads, ( archers, mortor launchers ) riders ( horses, cavalry, light armor vehicles), and finally large projectile brigades ( canons and tanks ) Siege warfare had sub-ranks of warriors with highly specialized skill sets for hoisting ladders, operating trebuchets and catapults. Miners were used to dig under siege-works, demolitions experts who used explosives, Marshal arts warriors.

Inventors. You need inventors and researchers who come up with new technologies. If war has a silver lining, there is always some new technology that comes of it that can be used in civilian life after the war.

In my story, all the warriors on the side of good were simply observers at first. When tensions escalated they had to train for combat with swords, bows and arrows. Later, they developed a very effective crossbow squad and finally, in desperation, borrowed technology from the humans and built small ultra-microlight flying craft. So far, every suggestion in this forum was used in my story at one point or another.

I wouldn't leave out the spiritual leaders, clerics, mystics, seers, and the like. That adds a depth to things. In my story, my character is somewhat mystic, she is an empath.

Hmm. This is largely a war fought with magic with a quadrupedal cast. That does make me think though... Technology/weapons would largely be magical in nature (i.e. items of seeming no consequence in appearance, but makes big, big boom when triggered by magic) but I like the idea of a battle mage who crafts the nasty things... a combination of inventor/weapon maker. :)

Thankies for that thought process! :D

: You're welcome, I had a feeling it was geared toward the magical. Good luck.
