Not sure where this belongs, feel free to move if necessary.
So I created a Masquerade Bribe thread because I want pretty much everything in the Steamworks Menagerie and I don't have a lot of time this year to spend on Subeta racking up trinkets myself.
The link to my thread is here, and as you can see, it was mostly a flop. I know the prizes I'm offering and not the most super fantabulous out there, but I don't think they're bad.
The thing is, I offered five top prizes... as it stands, I only have two player who really danced enough to deserve a prize. Third place would go to someone with just 12 dances, fourth to someone with 5 dances, and fifth would tie for two people with 2 dances each.
I'm not trying to be stingy (in fact I have sent out plushies and other small prizes to random people, and everyone has gotten a 2 pt wiz token for participating so far) but I'm feeling like this is a little unfair to me so far. I spent a lot of time earning the SP for the prizes, and I don't feel that (excepting the current 1st and 2nd places) my players have put in much effort dancing with me :(
Also, there's the matter of the costume contest I was going to hold... I have had one entry (who didn't read the rules I set for it). Should that person should win because they're the only choice? That kind of doesn't seem right to me.
Thought/opinions/suggestions? Please don't just call me stingy, I'm not trying to be and I don't have any problem giving the prizes to the top 2 dances, it just seems like I have a bunch of prizes that I don't want to give to some people who spent only 15 minutes on this, you know?
Why didn't you post after the last poster on the board to bring it back up to the top? Or invite friends to your board? It doesn't seem like you made even the minimal effort to keep the board alive.
Also, you promised those prizes and I'm pretty sure you have to stick by that. It looks like you only have 1 top prize, not 5. They decrease in value quickly and by a lot.
I didn't want to just keep 'bumping' the thread, I could be wrong but I don't think you're really supposed to do that here. I also have a very small friends list, I don't think most people on it are still active, but tbh I just plain didn't think of pinging them.
And as I said, I know I don't have the best prizes out there. I can't afford to do a bunch of CSC or cash shop items as some people can. A few of my prizes have, unfortunately, devalued since I bought them. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do about that...
Did you post on your board when you handed out the random prizes? That's what I did and it worked well to move it back to the front page while not being a worthless post.
I did do that and am preparing to do it again here soon, I'm just collecting the right number of things atm. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
I've seen several successful threads where they not only had the prizes for the top dancer, but offered something like a 15-20 point token to people who danced 5 or 10 times. IMHO more people will want to dance for something when they know they are going to get something, instead of just doing it for a chance for something.
D: First, I think you should set a limit of minimum dances for people to get prices. Hence the masquerade is ending monday, 50dances+ should be reasonable. Contact the people who are participating (specially those who are wayy under) to let them know about this (if you decide to do it) :O This way they will somehow deserve it and you won't loose that much D;
Also, I agree has said. People are willing to participate for guaranteed prices (: My dancing board (closed), I was overwhelmed with dances :O My kissing board also had the same system and I was able to reach 1k in just over a day :O
Hopefully this helped (x
The prizes seem fine to me :) To be honest, I think that you should still give them out. Those are the rules you've set. Next time, you could add something like "must dance at least x times to be eligible for a top 5 prize". Hopefully you can still get some more people to join before it ends. (I might enter, but I'm actually already posting on a bribe thread so I might not have a lot of dances to give you). About the outfit contest, if the only person who entered didn't read the rules, you could disqualify them maybe? I would still give them a small prize for the "effort" xD
I agree with . I don't think adding a minimum amount of dances would be fair at this point. It wouldn't be right to change the rules in the middle of the competition. In the future, however, I think it'd be ideal to add a stipulation like that in order to prevent this from happening again. :(
Previously known as Scrambled.
I've found I'm more likely to participate in a dancing/kissing/whatever contest if the prizes instead of being given to the top dancers, instead they are given for reaching a certain amount of dances. For example: anyone who reaches 50 dances gets a 500 pt wizard token or something like that. That way I have a goal and it won't be affected by by the other players.....like some crazy person who is dancing 24 hours a day and I have no chance at beating. XD
I don't usually dance for prizes. I just want to have an invitation back. And when I post asking for dances, I always post right after the last dancer to keep my board alive. I don't think I've ever heard that it was not allowed. I need to thank the people for dancing with me.
I think maybe also take out the spoiler tags and just list the prizes, so lazy people (like me) can see them with minimal effort. lmao.
Thanks for the advice guys! I guess I'll just starting pimping the hell out of that thread and hope I get a few more competitors by monday, and net year I will definitely set some minimums, or do prize tiers instead of top prizes. I really appreciate the suggestions!
