I've been watching this and all I can say is fuck those people who think the bill would be good for women in Texas but good on that woman for standing up against people trying to force pregnancy as a punishment on women.
Women shouldn't be punished for having sex and children shouldn't be used as punishments.

When men can have babies, I'd like to see how fast abortions become widely available.... :/
collecting So proud of her efforts. So infuriated by the cheap shenanigans they used to try to push it through anyways. Either the rules matter, or they don't. Clearly, cheating is IOKIYAR.
So proud of the crowd of relatively well behaved supporters, too. Without the cheering taking up time as well, they might have squeezed a vote through, and that show of support is important. I think some of the senate members forget that they're representing the people, not their own personal desires and opinions. I saw a quote that said 80% of Texans did not support the bill. Seems like that would be an easy enough bit of math for anyone.
Wendy Davis is my new hero.
Unfortunately, Rick Perry's not so willing to let this go. He's called for another special hearing to start on July 1st. Because, you know, heaven forbid women get to choose for themselves.
NYT: Texas Senate Approves Strict Abortion Measure. Can we give Texas back to Mexico and Florida back to Spain?
